Ok, I got sick of looking for a post already on this topic. :o

Ok... I just want to know, Pop Century or All Star Movies.

I've stayed at both. I like the Movies cuz the buildings aren't as tall, doesn't feel as big, and I like their food selection better.

But the Pop has cheaper taxes, its own bus, no stupid shampoo and conditioner dispenser.

I don't know which one I like better. Help me out on deciding!

I have never stayed at Pop, but a few weeks ago, my sister and I were at the ALL Star Movies. We had never stayed at a Value Resort as we are DVC members. This resort stole my heart! I absolutely loved the themeing. The rooms are decorated so cute. I would definately stay there when I go with my granddaughter in a couple of years.

I haven't stayed at Movies, but I have stayed at Sports (Movies was full), and at Pop. After staying at Sports my entire family agreed that if we couldn't afford the Poly, we would spend the extra for a Moderate, PO preferably. We didn't care for the theming (might have felt different at Movies) the CM's we ran into didn't seem very informed or interested, and we hated having to share buses with other resorts without any other options.

However, we stayed at Pop in January and we loved it. We have booked it again for our visit next week. It may have been because it was only a month old when we were there, but the CM's all seemed to go out of their way to be helpful and friendly, everything was clean, no sharing of busses, theming was ok. We only had one (minor) complaint about Mousekeeping, but otherwise felt that for the price it was quite a bargain.

I have read others' posts about less than magical experiences at Pop just like all the other resorts. Some had parking issues (we didn't have a car there), and others had issues with the food court and tables being dirty (We didn't notice this, but I blame those who don't clean up after themselves and their children more that CM's who can't keep up).

Just do your homework, read the descriptions and check out the pictures on this board as well as AllEars of both resorts. You'll read positives and negatives on each resort, that's why there are so many, but as long as you understand that you're staying at a Value resort and look for the positives instead of focusing on the negatives, I'm sure you will enjoy whichever one you choose... but we choose Pop.

Hope that helps!

We have stayed at the ASMo before and are going to POP in three weeks so I too would love to here others opinions about both resorts. As far as ASMo is concernced my only dislike there was also the shampoo soap dispensers. It has been a while since my family stayed at a value. We upgraded to mod once and have justified the expense for every other trip so this will be a reminded of what the values offer. :Pinkbounc

I've stayed at both, and maybe I'm just biased, but I preferred Pop over movies hands down. Sure, the theming at Movies is cute, but the interiors of the rooms are nicer at Pop, you don't have to share buses, and where else do the CMs get down and boogie twice daily?

We like ASMO; but between the two POP wins - no contest. We were there Opening Day; and have been back twice since. It is our new favorite Value Resort.
It is big; but doesn't seem to be. All the buildings are in easy walking distance of the Main Building/Food Court. Something I appreciate after a long day at the Parks.
It is a more "fun" Resort and the sound track in the background is the best!
Hope this helps.

We just got back from a 10 day stay at Pop Century...

We stayed at Movies on 2001...

It is almost like staying at the same resort.....we stayed in the 70's building and when you walked out our door there was the huge big wheel and Mickey phone....
Movies we had buzz and woody outside our door....
I loved both ideas....

The wolk to pool and buses was very short and easy from the 70's building...we had room #0102...park in the 90's parking lot and also go that way to the buses.

....I would not pay the extra $10 for preferred...to close to pool and all that noise....they are contantally cleaning stuff around that area with power washers. We don't spend that much time in our room anyway.

I noticed they do a lot of cleaning at the resort as a matter of fact...I saw them feather dusting the outside lights...:D

My complaint would be the noise level from other rooms, I noticed it a lot more this time at the Pop??

They took down the big numbers in front by check in....Jeane destroyed 1980 and they took them all down while we were there??

I did have to call for a hair dryer...but housekeeping brought it right away, they were very good about getting things to us when we asked.

Our experince at both movies and Pop was great and I can't wait to stay again!!

Sorry, a little off topic, but it sounds like some people don't like the shampoo/conditioner dispeners at the AS resorts. First visit coming up to ASMo in Dec. and just wondering what the problem was with the dispensers?? Is the shampoo/conditioner of very poor quality?

Any advice would be appreciated!

We have stayed at both places. I like the themes better at ASMo. Pop was newer and the rooms had real mickey soaps!!! (I think people like to take them home!) The food court I like better at Movies only because it isn't attached to the gift shop. The food was equal. Pop has really neat framed stuff from the decades. The lobby is a little nicer at Pop. The tax rate is lower at Pop. We stayed 9 nights and never saw anyone boogie!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What did we miss?

We just got back yesterday from POP. And we did not like it at all. We will not be staying there again. We have stayed at the All Star Movies twice and LOVED it. We are booking again at the Movies for January.
Here is what we did not like about POP. The hotel seems much larger than Movies. The pathways to the pool and the food were very confusing (and I am very good with a map). The food court being attached to the gift shop we did not like (especially trying to get my son to the busses in the mornings without buying something). The buses weren't right out of the door like at the Movies.
All and all we like the Movies much better.

The dispensers are Soap/Shampoo/Conditioner... ie: all in one. No bar soap.

We just got back from POP from a short two day trip up there to relieve hurrican stress. We are DVC memebers so we usually stay at the BWV. We had excellent service. When we checke in we got our room right away. The theming is great as is most of the theming in all of the hotels.

We did not have aproblem with the food court being attached to the food court, but I did not have small children with us. If we did I am sure I would not have been happy to have to walk children through there each time we went to eat.

We did have some problems with parking. What I don't understand is why. If you have 100 rooms, you should have 100 parking spaces. I do not have a handicap stickers, but I have problems breathing especially when I am tired and my husband would have to drop me off in front and then go and try to find a parking space. I will say we usually stay to the close of the parks so we are getting in late, but there should be enough parking in the general area to accomadate you.

We have stayed at all of the All Stars hotels and honestly I would go to either one again. POP or All Stars.

A couple mentioned that the taxes are cheaper at POP. HOW! The only way I can figure is because the cost of the room is cheaper. They are in the same county and same state and the tax is set. Can anyone explain to me how this can be done?

Does that mean that there are no "mickey soaps" in the rooms at ASMo???
Does anybody know what brand of shampoo/condiitoner is available from the dispensers at ASMo?

The thing about this topic is this: First, if everyone were to park in thier assigned lot, the problem would be lessened. Second, some spaces are further than others. This is true for all Disney resorts. The spaces are available, but you can only have so many close spaces, the rest simply must be further away.

All-Stars is in Osceola County, where the tax is 12%. Pop Century is in Orange County, where the tax is 11.5%.

I believe you get one bar of facial soap at ASMo. The shampoo is horrible. Bring your own.
