We have rsvns for the Preferred Rooms only because thats all
I could get with discount codes. I really want Toy Story, what
do you think my chances are if I fax and request Toy Story?
I guess this would be considered "downgrading", has anyone
done this?

Also, we're driving and will have lots of stuff to haul from the
car. If you can't get Toy Story, how far from the parking lot
is the Fantasia bldg.

Thanks,
Cheryl

I was under the impression that the Toy Story buildings were considered prefered view. I haven't stayed there since they started designating prefered rooms but we did stay in the Toy Story buildings. These are the closest to the bus stop and also to the main building. If you fax a request and mention it on arrival you at least have a chance to get the building you want, although it isn't garanteed.

When we were there in January, preferred was Fantasia.
You could always ask for TS. It doesn't hurt. They may have a no show or cancellation.
I'm not sure how they would handle the $ difference. Just not bill as much, I would *assume.*
Good luck. Either building would be great. However, I would say personally I would prefer not to have a poolside or a room facing Andy's room. (Noise factor)

Hello clm3-
When we last stayed at ASMo, we had room 9712 in Toy Story bldg. The corner room was 9711. That whole side of the bldg. was about 25 feet from a smaller parking lot that only seemed to be used by guests in the immediate area. There was always open spots. It was great for carrying sleeping children back to the room or hauling luggage to and from the room. The Fantasia bldg. also has a side facing the parking lot. If you can't get a pool facing room, then the 10.00 per night upgrade cost just doesn't seem worth it.

We stayed in room 9920 (TS). We probably overlooked the same parking lot. ;)
(Corner room, third floor near the elevator. VERY convenient! Great room!)

Hello Luv2Roam-
That area was very convienient for us, ground floor was a plus. Did you find that the parking lot was never full. We had a mousekeeper, Max, every day he would leave a new display for the kids using their toys and he even decorated using towels, sheets and washcloths. We always enjoyed returning to the room at the end of the day to see what he had done that day.

We aren't in the resort much, but the only vehicle I saw use this parking lot was a Disney groundskeeping vehicle.
This was just after the first of the year, so it was a slow time anyway.
One thing that impressed me (and I was very happy with) was that our room was next to the elevator.
At the elevator, as you get off, facing straight ahead was a room for CM's. Then on the other side of that was a (outside) corridor. Then, our room.
So although we were right next to the elevators, we didn't hear elevator noise. I heard a *ding* once and one time heard what sounded like someone walking along scrapping the side corrider wall (very briefly).
I just thought this was well planned out for guests and CM's.
The room next to us was very quiet. And being on the top floor, backside, there was no noise at all.
My concern about staying at a value resort was the noise level. But it was quieter than most hotels!
At the end of our stay the cheerleader groups were arriving. And the only way I knew that, is I saw some practicing outside on the grass.
For us, ASMo was very quiet for that type of resort. I really was impressed, esp staying on-site and for what we paid.
I loved it. :D :bounce:

My family and I stayed at ASMo back in Sept 2000 in the off season. We faxed a request to them for Toy Story a few days in advance, as was advised. (We were paying regular rates, not preferred). Anyway, when we checked in, we were told there were no rooms available in TS. I find this impossible to believe considering the time of year we visited, as well as the light crowds in the food court.

I have a theory. I think that people who book thru Disney directly are given room priority over people who book thru a travel agent. (like we did).

We didn't let it spoil our vacation, and we enjoyed Dalmatians, tho it was a bit more of a walk to everything.

We're going again over Memorial Day, God help us, so I don't have my hopes up for TS. We'll see what we get. Fantasia is right in the middle of everything, so if you end up there, that's great!

Enjoy,

Kerri

Hello kerri0616-
We're also going Memorial Weekend. We have gone that time for the last 3 years. It's not as bad as you'd think. I'd try to avoid MK on Sat. On Sat. night it will be a zoo. Monday seemed much less crowded. I guess its a travel day for most folks. Too bad they cancelled Friday's E-night. We were looking forward to enjoying the smaller crowds that night. On the bright side, we have 8:10 ressies for Cinderella's breakfast on Sat. morning, so I guess the extra sleep won't hurt. Hope you enjoy your vacation. We leave in 4 days, can't wait.

kerri0616 & mark & sandra: DH and I leave Saturday morning! Maybe we will see each other. Wear your green ribbons! ;)
Sunday we are planning on DAK. Monday we are taking the FW tour! :D

Hello Luvs2Roam-
We couldn't resist the low rates offered at the AKL, so we're staying there this trip. Now that we're annual passholders, we might actually be able to slow down a bit and enjoy this great resort a little. We'll be looking for the ribbons too!
Enjoy your vacation.
