Do you mean having the birthday song signed? They don't sing in the restaurants.

You can order a cake, or sometimes if noted on the reservation they'll bring a cupcake out but it's not guaranteed.

I know shows have specific times they have a someone who signs available. I believe it comes out pretty close to the actual dates. When are you going?

Not sure of a Mickey who signs.

This is on the website:

I have seen a few CM that sign ( they have name tags that say if they speak/ sign a different language Mickey dose not sign he only has 4 fingers and bigger hands so it is kind of ( not imposable for him to) sign. you could go meet Mickey the talking one at the theater and sign to your son what he says and my be teach a CM with mickey how to say happy birthday really quick for your son.

or if you have a few extra thousands dollar you could do a VIP tour as I have seen some that can sign

We go to Disney every year. We've had Cast Members sing Happy Birthday to my son as they brought the cake to the table. I was asking if instead of singing someone could sign Happy Birthday. We don't need an Interpreter because she's only 2 and is still learning to sign.

I've seen a video of Mickey signing what's your name? I didn't know if it was at Disney World or Disney Land.

Thanks!

I've never noticed ASL on the Cast Member name tags but I've never looked for it. Good to know.

I've seen a video of Mickey signing what's your name. I thought it would be cool to see it.
I've never seen the talking Mickey! We need to do that.

Thank you!

I don't think there's a way to schedule for a signing Mickey. I've seen videos of Minnie signing, but it think it's just luck that the particular character knows signs.

Both those things are 'pixie dust' as they are not anything that Disney does on a regular basis. They don't always bring out a cake (unless you arranged it/purchased it) for a birthday (and if they did, it's a cupcake) and they don't always have a friend of Mickey that knows sign language. It's all a matter of luck, and with the cutbacks going on at WDW, not something I'd count on, sadly.

Mickey in town square at Disney world sings for your birthday but you have to tell Mickey ( or one of his handlers ) as This Mickey will other wise miss the birthday button

I have seen a GR CM and one other with ASL in sign on there name tag

Many of the characters do know a little bit of ASL, but whether a particular one you encounter does or doesn't is chance. That includes 'face' characters, like Princesses, but also 'fur' characters, like Mickey.
Even those with only 4 fingers might sign - thumbs are important to many signs, but it often doesn't matter whether you have 3 other fingers or 4.

My daughter doesn't speak, but understands and does use some ASL. I tell the handler that she understands when spoken to, but uses sign also. We've had pretty good luck with getting characters who sign. If she signs to them, I do translate because the fur characters can't see well. She also simplifies signs by leaving out parts that are hard for her.

I believe where the language are it says ASL, I've seen a couple and I want to say there's a picture of fingers, but that may be someplace else. But I do know that I've looked at a name tag and thought "they sign".

ASL name tag use to be A S L in finger spell it may have changed to just ASL. I never took my exam to get the name tag but 4 people in my attraction had it and 2 of us could have but never could get the scheduled time needed to take the ASL one. I have seen several CMs with the ASL tag.

There is 1 promo video going around about a family who visits Disney World and Minnie and Tink sign to them and their kids. This was a promo video. While it is wonderful it happened there is no guarantee it will. I will say a ton of entertainment CMs do know enough ASL to say what's your name but that may be as far as the conversation goes. I knew how to explain my attraction, give directions, and have slow conversations. The minimum to get any language pin is to be able to describe your work location and answer simple questions like "where is the nearest bathroom?" "what time is the parade" etc. So if you see a tag they can do at least that but not always more.

Yes it is finger spelling out ASL on the name tag where if they know another laungragr would be

Uh, Mickey and Minnie can quite possibly do ASL even with 4 fingers. There is a Great video on the net of Minnie having a conversation with a little girl in ASL!!!
Now will the one you meet know ASL? That is tough to determine ahead of time. But some characters do know ASL.

Did not meant to put the not in there but it is harder to sign with gloves on and 4 finger I have taken 3 hours of ASL although I am not fluent I know enough T to get by and to have a resonble conversation with someone In ASL Is it possible that Mickey can sign yes do I think it will be likely no but please remember this is my option and I can have what ever option I want.

Option? Do you mean opinion? Yes, you are entitled to your opinion. But you originally stated Mickey could not sign when in fact gloved characters CAN sign which is not an OPINION but a FACT. That is why I posted which I am entitled to do as well. To clarify and give the OP correct factual information.

OPTION was obviously a typo for opinion.

It is very likely (in our experience) that most characters have enough ASL to at least do very basic communicating using ASL.
Some may have only a few words, some may have quite a bit more. There is not a lot of time for long conversations in character meets and a 2 year old is not likely to have enough signs for a long conversation anyway.
There is no guarantee that a particular character will have any ASL, but our family's experience is that most have at least a bit and the characters who can't talk are great with body language and pantomime, so would be able to communicate quite well even if they can't do ASL

As nice as the video is, I would not go in expecting the characters to sign unfortunately (as most do not)

Also the characters don't speak, and really interact with you with gestures...so they speak all languages!
You can do the "interpreting" for the character if you speak...
The general scripts is first your child might hug them...then hand them a autograph book (where you may tell the character your child will be doing this so they know, and you can tell your daughter via ASL)..then you would take a picture.
