Asking Uber to make quick grocery stop?

I don’t know about Uber but I know that Lyft advertises that you can make multiple stops with them.

Yes, but there is a time limit with those stops. It's used primarily to pick up multiple pax or a quick run-in someplace, not a grocery expedition. I drive Lyft. It's the same 5 minute window you have with waiting for the initial pick up that you have at a stop.

This was my impression as well. We have only used the multiple stop feature once. It was when we were leaving DL and we had the Uber stop at our resort so that we could grab our luggage from the front desk. We had stayed at this hotel multiple times so we knew that it was a quick bag retrieval process, as opposed to some places that seem to take forever to get bags, so we felt comfortable with requesting the stop, it took less than two minutes to grab our bags and we gave the driver a nice cash tip as well. If making a grocery stop I would just do two separate trips.

I drive for Lyft. They are almost always cheaper than Uber.
You can put in a "2-stop" ride if you want your driver to wait for you but some drivers don't want to wait for more than 5 minutes. It's totally driver discretion, nothing in the guidelines says they have to leave after a certain period of time.
If you offer them a cash tip (up front because people love to say "Ill tip you on the ap, then don't) most will happily wait for up to 15 minutes.

Yes, we are paid time and mileage - but it's by estimated time, not the additional 5-10 minutes they may have to sit and wait. We also can get assigned new rides mid-ride with a pax based on estimated drop off time and location that we have to go to as soon as we drop off the first pax at their location. Should we not do that timely, we can get flagged and lose that ride. We have no "meter" like a cab. In my circle most drivers would rather take the sure guaranteed ride than hope a pax tips adequately for sitting with you.

Dharma, that's actually not true. What a customer pays and what we get paid as uber/lyft drivers are irrelevant. In the East Bay, we get paid .1275 per minute. So not much, and this is on both Uber and Lyft. If it was based purely on the passengers estimated rate, then we would get completely hosed any time we got stuck in unexpected traffic, like when it took me 45 minutes to drive someone 6 miles the other weekend.

That said, wait time pay is minimal. If it's not a busy time, I will give them up to 5 minutes, but I let them know at the stop politely yet firmly that our per minute compensation is minimal and I lose money if I wait any extended times, and that I will be forced to end the ride and they will need to call another Uber/Lyft when they are ready to be picked up.

I was dumbing it down for those who are not drivers. We are paid time and mileage, however as you said wait time pay is minimal and like you, I will wait 5 minutes.
