I rented points from someone for a 1 night studio at ssr before I move over to a regular reservation at yacht club. Then we last minute added a night and the only thing available at ssr was a 1 bedroom. I got a great rate on the rental being last minute so booked it. However, we don't arrive till around 1am and I have an infant and preschooler so I was thinking if possible I would see if they had a studio available at check in that we could possibly stay in for both nights instead of moving. Am I completely impractical or crazy or is this not appropriate to ask?

It's not impossible to ask for but unlikely that they would have it available if it wasn't originally available when it was booked.

This should be discussed beforehand with the person or broker that arranged for your rental.

It's unlikely that you will get any money back and if front desk changes your booking at check in, it will almost certainly "mess up" the owner's account.

Can't be done at check in by the resort, DVC would have to make the change.
