Ask Me Anything

Thanks for posting! Very cool!

What is your favorite thing about your job? What is the most difficult thing about it?

You're welcome! My job is amazing! I love being able to travel. I love having the opportunity to make someone's vacation magical. And working with kids is my passion! The most difficult thing is being away from my family for months at a time. But even still I would not trade it for anything!

We're going on a Wonder Alaskan cruise in August 2016 (our first ever cruise!). I've looked at personal navigators from this year and saw that the Edge club has an activity called 'Villainous Ventures', do they have that activity in Vibe as well? I'll have girls in both Edge and Vibe (they will be 12 and 16 next summer) and I know both kids would love it.

Thanks for all the work you do as a youth counselor!

Hi! Yes they sometimes do it in Vibe. Depends on the cruise and the number of kids. Yes I'm sure you will all have a magical time! Please let me know if you have any further questions!

Hi! There is every possibility that he will be able to move up to Vibe. You will need to wait until your cruise and talk to the Counselors in vibe. Unfortunately as I will not be on your cruise I cannot confirm or deny for you right now. Enjoy your cruise!

Thank you so much! I just wanted to know if there was a possibility.

Are you on the Dream? If so, tell Angela (the CAM) that I said hello...we are coming in two weeks (she used to be our Tenant)

Hi! I am a Youth Activities Cast Member. I know that myself and another CM have had threads where we answer your questions. As they are both from a long time ago, I thought I would start a new one as there seems to still be many many people on each cruise that are asking the same questions. So please feel free to ask me anything and I will do my best to answer! Have a Magical Day :)

Hi dont know if its been asked but do we know if The Fantasy will have the magic bands like WDW to use on the ship and at the kids club. Just getting ready to organise my next cruise with DCL and last year we didnt have them on The Fantasy. TIA

The bands in the kid's clubs on all DCL ships look like Magic Bands, but do not operate the same. They are just for checking in/out of the club and help keep track of which rooms they kids are in while in the club/lab.

Hi KT2038. Not a question about the ships, but Castaway Cay. If you take the bike trail, on the stretch past Serentity Bay, about half way down on the right side, there is a little bird house type thing that is screwed onto a tree. It had little paper notes inside it. Do you know what the meaning of this is?

P.S... My son is now 18.... sad....because he is no longer allowed in the kids clubs. This was always the highlight of his cruise. Counselors were awesome to him and he still keeps in touch with friends he made on the cruise. Keep up the great work!!

Hi again, I am posting the same question because I think mine got lost in the middle of several others about infants/toddlers. Can you request your child be taken to a particular activity that is scheduled in the lab/club that you know they would enjoy that occurs after they have been checked in? Our DGS is 3, and probably wont realize the opportunity to meet Peter Pan/Stitch/ etc. is available in some of the activities if he is engaged in free play, which is does readily. Or, do we need to just check him in for those activities?

Hi! Sorry about the late reply! We do announce all programs over the microphone and ask all children if they would like to join in. We cannot force them to join in if they don't want to. If you would like your grandchild to participate in a specific program and you think they will miss the announcements or not listen to Counselors you can drop them off for a particular program. Even if you do this, we still cannot make the child participate if they decide to play with something else. While programs are on we do shut off the TV and the wii and close other sections such as the slide. This helps more children participate, yet has also caused other parents to complain that their children have nothing to do.

Hi KT,

If I remember correctly from earlier threes you are an Australian working on the Wonder. Is that right? We will be travelling on the Wonder in late September. Is there anything from home you miss? Happy to throw some extra vegemite, weetbix, twisties, caburys......in the bag?

Hi MCGirls - we are from Oz as well - whereabouts are you from? Will this be your first DCL cruise?

we want to try edge or vibe. My son is mentally disabled. It would be hard for him to keep track of the time or be responsible enough to meet us at a certain time and location. I will not be able to give him the responsibility of having a wave phone either. Would I be able to pick him up at the clubs or are adults not allowed to go up there at all? thank you for your help. we are trying to figure out a good plan so we don't have to spend our entire cruise looking all over the boat just to find where he is at.

Hi! How old is your son? Yes you could come and pick him up, however the thing with edge or vibe is that they are not secure. The Counselors would not be able to stop him from leaving if he wanted to go.

Oh I know they can't stop him from leaving. We already talked about that with him. We told him to stay there until a certain time and then we will pick him up. I just want to make sure I am allowed up there to pick him up.

Yes...first cruise ever. We are from Melbourne.

So are we - we are Melbourians as well and you are going to luvvvvvvvvvvvv DCL. we are planning our 3rd cruise (second with DCL) and we are going back to do Eastern Carribean cruise on The Fantasy. let me know if you have any questions/queries before you head off.

Happy sailing and enjoy - would luv to hear all about it when you return.

This may not be a popular thing to ask, but since you said "ask me anything", here goes. Are YA CMs ever trained to be nice and friendly to parents? On my recent Wonder cruise, although most YA CMs were very nice, I encountered 2 that were just either rude or standoffish to me when I was picking up my kids. I felt it was uncalled for.

Hi! I'm terribly sorry that you had this kind of negative experience. Yes we are trained in friendliness but it is also common sense and common curtesy. Do you know the Counselor's names?

We're on our first time on DCL on the wonder this nov, I haven't exactly read up on all the clubs info yet but I'll just ask you for now! So neat! Our girls are 6 and 9, will the be in the same place together?
