Ashamed Mommy (or Daddy) moments...- inspired by Britney

When DD was about a year old, she was just kind of crying off and on in her crib while I was trying to get her to go to sleep. I looked in once and saw that she was laying there, just fine.

So after about 3 hours of trying to be strong and not go in there (but talking to her through the door, "Now go to sleep honey" in a meaner and meaner tone of voice) and let her fall asleep on her own, I open the door and the overhead light is on bright! It looks like noon, not midnight! No wonder she wouldn't go to sleep!

I know I have many but can only remember some of them right now.

I cut my DS#3's ear while cutting his hair.

The same DS was being a real bear at WDW when he was 11 months old. Just a real crab and we thought it was because of the change in crib, etc. I finally took his temp and it was 103 and we took him to the walk in clinic and he had a double ear infection.

My DS #2 fell after jr. football practice. He said his arm hurt but he had no trouble moving it. Three days later, I took him for xrays and he had a fractured elbow. I was sick!

DS #1 (he is now 26) was almost 2 and decided to walk in his baby brothers walker (they were not considered dangerous back then). The wheels stopped as he walked to the area rug and it flipped over and he went nose first into the stairs. There was no blood and he didn't really cry so I thought he was fine. The next day he had 2 black eyes.

I don't have any children, but I do have a big sister story. When I was about 7 years old my mom told me to watch my baby brother while she took a shower. I'm not sure how old he was, no more than just a few months. Well he was laying on the sofa and I was busy entertaining him, well the doorbell rang I decided to run over and get it, totally forgeting about my lil brother. As I opened the door, which was my dad standing there being a goofball by rining the bell, we heard a loud thud and heard my brother screaming bloody murder. He had rolled off the couch onto the hard wood floor. Yep, I got grounded for that one...he's 13 now and I always tell him that story..lol

Another brother moment, he was in the shopping cart at the store, he couldn't have been more than a year old, and I was playing around with it well i went to jump up on the cart and the whole thing flipped over, little brother included. Boy did my mom flip :furious: ..got grounded for that one too. Surprsingly my brother is still normal after growing up with me as a big sister:rotfl:

I remembered another "very ashamed" moment. This one doesn't involve my kids; it was my 5 yo baby sister at the time.

She wanted some cinammon toast for breakfast one morning. So being the good older sister that I am :goodvibes I fixed it for her. But instead of grabbing the cinammon off the spice rack, I grabbed the garlic powder (not on purpose!!)

She took one bite and gagged. I stood over her and firmly told her that I just went through the trouble of making her that toast and she was going to eat every bite of it. The poor girl sat there gagging and crying as she tried to get the whole thing down. :guilty:

Poor thing. She still remembers it to this day even though she is in her twenties now. :rotfl2:

Got to love big sisters!

Yo unever believe how quickly a crawling baby can get away, until it happens to you. DS fell down the stairs. QUOTE]

This happened to us too. We were at the house of an acquaintance with a mutual friend. The family invited us all over with the kids. My DD was crawling around (she was the youngest one there). We were all standing around the kitchen, literally at least 4 adults within grabbing distance of her and the basement door was open 'cause the bigger kids were running down to the playroom and all of a sudden we heard a thud. I just kept hearing my DH, normally VERY calm, repeating "Oh My God, Elizabeth" over & over as he ran down the stairs to get her. I can still hear it in my head. SHe was totally fine though. Just goes to show you how resilient little bodies are. If I had fallen down the stairs like that I would probably still be hurting. And we were so emabarassed 'cause we barely knew these people...yeah, we're great parents!
