I didnt wanna hi-jack the other thread and figured we could take a moment to admit to those moments we "messed up" but no one knew, so we stuck it in our parenting closet of skeletons! :rotfl: So, fess up.... pirate:

*My son rolled off the couch once, onto hardwood floors - the other one, off a bed (at WDW as a matter of fact! POFQ!)

*My youngest wouldnt sleep in a crib, anywhere unless he was *ALONE* like in a dark room. I finally rolled his crib into the walk-closet.

*And then, with his "alone in a dark room" problem - where could I lay him down in Hotels, or a friends house? The bathtub, of course. He slept at CBR in a bathrub, with a squishy comforter I brought from home - with the drain closed - with a perfectly good crib sitting there, and he wouldnt use it. I even tried pulling a "BIRD" thing with him - covered the crib like he was a bird, with a sheet. Nope...he'd pull the sheet and peep at us through a corner.

*I burnt my son's mouth when feeding him lasagna cuz I hadnt blown on it long enough. He got a blister and everything.

*I zipped his belly skin up, when I zipped his jammies up once. He got a goofy blister too.

*I was letting him lick and maul a grape popsicle - until he chomped off a hunk and started choking. I didnt know what to do. I hung him upside down by his ankles and shook him. It worked, he's still alive.

*And I didnt buckle in his carseat properly and made a quick stop. I turned back to make sure he was okay and that buckle popped right out and his carseat was flipped upside down between the seat of the back, and the back portion of the front. I panicked - flipped him back over.... he slept through the whole thing.

***EDITED TO ADD - Most of these all were with son #1 (except the bathtub-boy) You -do- learn as you go on. Just gotta do some trial and error. :confused3

SO... although many of you may not admit to what I just have - NO ONE IS PERFECT!

dh was trying to enter the front door of the house but it seemed to be stuck-so he gave it a good shove. um....ds (about 3 at the time) was behind it and had stuck his foot UNDER THE DOOR AND WEATHERSTRIPPING. ds still has a faint scar from the stitches.

a good friend and DEVOTED mom was on a road trip with her dh and young son. they needed to stop and change a diaper. since they were traveling in a pickup style truck (with minimal room in the back bench area) they pulled over and layed a blanket in the back, pulled the car seat out and the baby was changed in the back area. they put the baby back in the car seat and mom goes off to use the rest room, she comes back and dad trots off to use the rest room. dad gets back in car in starts it up, and just as they are starting to drive off mom sez 'thanks for getting the baby in the car-i hate dealing with that car seat'-dad gets a stricken look on his face and throws the car into park. the baby and car seat were still in the back of the truck! following that dad always did a head count before turning on the ignition :teeth:

Oh boy, there are so many....lol!

The worst: My DH and I accidently left our infant son Aaron (who had special needs) in the car for about 15 minutes, around noon in the early summer. It's a long convoluted story, but he thought I got the baby out of the car and I thought he did, and I had gone inside to answer the phone. While on the phone we started talking about the baby, and when I realized that he wasn't in the house I ran outside and saw that he was still in the car. He was ok, but I was an emotional wreck about it for a long time.

Another time (same son) I was getting ready to go to the grocery store. I was loading up the car - oxygen tank for Aaron, diaper bag, stroller, check. DD strapped into her carseat, check. I pull out of the garage, onto the street, get one block away and look in my rearview mirror - no Aaron! I raced back home - he was still sitting in his infant carrier on top of the washing machine in our garage! How could I forget to load my son into the car??

There have been other bad mommy moments, but these two are the worst.

Well, I just posted this on the Britney thread but wanted my proud mom moments picked apart here!!! I bet I'll get mother of the year this time :cheer2: !!!

Ohhh pick me!!! Just yesterday I gave dd a double dose of Benadryl. I misread the box and gave her the dose appropriate for a 50lb child (she's 25 pounds). I realized immediately and called poison control who essentially laughed at me for being almost in tears and told me all that would happen would be a very sleepy baby.

The day before, same dd's 1st birthday, I was opening toys with a paring knife (should have used a chainsaw for the way those things are stuck to the box...). Anyway, she was on my left side so I carefully laid the knife down on the right. A good 20 minutes went by and she was moving around. I forgot about the knife until DH yelled, "CAROLINE!" I turned and looked at my baby gripping the knife by the handle about to bite down on the sharp side of the knife. I screamed and she got scared and opened her mouth pulling the KNIFE OUT.

Yes, these are just the last two days. I wonder what I'll manage tonight?

DH and I left our DD's who were 2 & 4 at the time, home alone by mistake once!

We were taking one of the cars in to be serviced - about 5 minutes away. Well, he leaves first and when I go to leave - no kids in sight. So I figure that he took them. I get to the garage and get out and start talking to DH and the mechanic. DH then asks if I am going to get the girls out of my car and put them into his - UM NO - you have the kids! Turns out they were playing hide and seek, but forgot to inform Mommy and Daddy!

We never drove home so fast!

Too many to count, and not just with my oldest. The most recent involves my DD4. I was taking her to the doctors for her check-up when she calls to me

DD "Mommy, I am leaning over"
Me "well, sit up nice"
DD "no Mommy, I am leaning"
me "sit nice"
DD "Mommy, I can't get up, my seat is falling."

This finally gets me to look in the rear-view mirror and she and her car seat are indeed leaning over. Turns out DS7 had unbuckled her seat when trying to undo his, and did not tell us. I have never really thought to check the car seats each time we go someplace, but I will from now on.

I've repressed most of these memories for good reason. Let me think of the ones I haven't repressed.

When my DD was a newborn we almost left her in the car when we went out to eat...we both started walking towards the restaurant, but realized who we were forgetting. We weren't used to carrying in a baby, afterall.

I slammed her toddler finger in the hinge side of a door.

I drove off without the carseat buckled into the car. And once without one of the kids buckled into the carseat. Blankets were on top of them and I thought they were buckled in.

I've been a mom for 18 1/2 years and have 4 kids, and I know there are LOTS of other examples. Thankfully nothing terrible has ever happened and I'm normally pretty careful.

DS was about 3. He was standing next to the stove watching me cook. I had a good eye on him, he wasn't near the burner I was using. All of a sudden he starts screaming. I had NO idea what was wrong. Nothing had splattered?

About 5 minutes later a blister appears on his forehead. Then it started making sense. When I had started cooking, I had a pan on the stove. I realized I would need a larger pan, so I took the first one off and moved it to the side. DS somehoe managed to set his forehead on this pan (I can't even believe it was still hot) and burned himself.

He still has a scar.

Or how about when we were at Walmart walking out of the bathroom. he was running his hands along the door when I suddenly realized his hand was just about to get pinched in the hinge side of the door. I grab him and yank him away.

It was too late though. I yanked his nail right off.

We have done that too, more times than I care for. We now have a "all buckled in" before we leave the parking space.

See? Doesnt it make us all feel better to admit to the wretched things we put our children through, as we were learning?? :lmao:

Some of these stories are funny! :thumbsup2

One time as we were about to leave to go somewhere she wanted some milk. I poured some cold milk out of the refrigerator in a sippy cup and put it in the little cup holder next to my three year old's carseat.

So we're driving along and I hear from the back "mommy, this milk tastes yecchy".

I'm like, what are you talking about, it's the milk we just had at breakfast. Quit fooling around and drink your milk."

"Mommy I don't want it".

"Drink your milk, for crying out loud, why did you ask me for it if you weren't going to drink it".

So I hear "well, OK" and she drinks some.

You guessed it.

There was a second sippy cup in the car that had been there who knows how long and it was full of curdled milk. Which I was scolding my little girl for not wanting to drink.

And being such a good little girl she actually drank some of it.

When we arrived, the sippy cup with the nice cold milk was sitting there right in the cup holder where I'd left it.

I felt so bad.

And this is also how I ended up with a flipped over car seat, in my OP.

I thought it was buckled in - it just mustve not been. :confused3

Had a newborn baby....he was 6 weeks old when we moved from CA to MI. My DH & I were packed up, ready to move. I used one end of our diningroom table as a make-shift changing table. So......one day, I'm changing my baby's diaper & he was smiling at me. After getting all his clothes back on, I just lifted this absolutely gorgeous little baby with the smiley face & BANG right into the chandelier! You know how low chandeliers really sit over a diningroom table.....

no more smiles ~ this baby was a cryin' like you can't believe! :guilty:

This child is now 11 y/o & I can't tell you what he's put me through (he's ADHD) so whenever I say "what happened to this child??" My DH's answer is "your fault, remember you banged his head on the chandelier...." Smart Ace!

I don't have any, because I'm not a Mommy (yet!) but I do remember some from my childhood that my mom still feels horrible about...

When I was about 4 years old, my mom was ironing on the bed (I have no idea why! Isn't that a fire hazard?) and I was laying on her bed also. I was sitting there playing, rolling around when next thing I know I feel this BURNING and she had accidently put the iron on my arm! I still remember that horrible pain. I also have a small scar from this!!

Another one, I was in the backseat of my dad's trans am. (Is that how you spell that?) and I was leaning forward, looking out of his window, it only had 2 doors so only 2 windows. Next thing you know, my dad started rolling up the window and my head got stuck in the window and I was choking. My dad says to this day "He didn't realize that my head was out the window", but I think thats pretty weird..?? I'm still tramatized about that one!!

With my 2nd DD the first time I trimmed her nails I cut her skin bad. I felt terrible, she cried and bled for a long time.

When the twins were almost two, we took a trip to Maine. After a rest area break we got in the car and continued on our way. DD kept saying "Be Careful!", "Be Careful!" (she had a fairly good vocabulary). We thought it was funny; that she was trying to tell us how to drive. I finally said, "Ok honey, that's enough, we're being careful," and turned around to look at her. We had forgotten to strap her in. We pulled over and took care of her. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

I've done this :wave2: to my sister (unintentionally!) . I gave her a class of milk and she drank the whole thing, periodically mentioning it tasted odd. Yep...the milk was off. I still feel hideous about this 5 years later!

* I put my dd in a forward facing carseat at 9 months old.

* I accidentally knocked her down a short flight of stairs when she was 2.

* When my nephew was a few months old, I was changing his clothes and I forgot that he couldn't stand up on his own (hey, I was used to changing toddlers! lol), so I put him in a standing position and let go...*smack* hit his head right on the changing table.

when DD#2 was a few days old I took her into my bed at 2am for her 2am feeding after she was done eating I put her on my chest to burb her, well I fell asleep while she was still on my chest and I went to roll over in my sleep and was woken up by a big CLUNK on the floor, I had threw my baby off of me. DD was just fine, no bumbs or bruises, but I felt so bad that I fell asleep.

DD#2 had to go to the ER once when she was 3-4 months old because I had her standing on my lap and she was bouncing and I lost control of her and she fell to the hardwood floor and she started spitting up blood and her nose was bleeding, she was fine and the blood from the mouth was just from the nose that she swallowed.

Just 2 things to show you I am not a perfect mommy

I have done the exact same thing. I was expecting major tummy trouble and stressed about it for hours. In the end, nothing happened. All was well :thumbsup2
