If you are going to rent, you really need to weed out those you do not want to work with as soon as you can. Practice saying, "Sorry, my terms are firm. You'll need to look for someone else who has terms more to your liking."![]()
Exactly, but at the same time it is a learning process when you start down the path of occasionally renting out your points. Prior to that first transaction in 2009, I spent weeks on here searching out info on the subject before I made my first successful transaction happen. Learning all about contracts, terms other people offer, etc, etc... I was honestly scared silly, but worked through it. I negotiated more than I will now, without a lot of extra benefit to us, but that's okay, it's water under the bridge. Each successive transaction got me thinking about other things that I would "do better" the next time. I deal with very large financial transactions & contracts at work all the time as a Credit Officer, so I do know a little about contracts, pricing and the like. I have since found it easier to negotiate on specific terms that a potential renter might be arguing about by simply laying out the terms I'm willing to accept upfront - or a higher per point cost for things like payment plans, and the like. Depending on what they're looking for, I've done both $0.50 per point and $1 per point extra. We do that at work all the time in putting loan transactions together. The customer will pay for what they really want, make the concession to accept the lower cost or try to find a deal more to their liking elsewhere - often times coming back when they couldn't find anyone else willing to give them more for less. I'm not mean about it in any way - just firm. Ultimately both parties want the best deal they can get.
FWIW, I would never give my member number to someone else. And I would not do a 3 way call either. There's no need.
I agree with this. There is no need. Just yesterday I completed my fourth rental reservation and had no problems with my renter. He never even suggested being on my call to MS, he just understood that it was my call to make. And yeah - don't give out your member number.
Immediately after a reservation is made in the renter's name, the renter can verify its existence on Disney's website -
www.MyDisneyReservation.com/DVC
All the renter needs is the confirmation number which the owner should provide.
This is excellent. I must have missed this somewhere along the line in reading here there and elsewhere. I need to add this to my master contract. Previously I only referred my renters to online check-in. Learned something new. Thanks Carol!
