My brother (turned 18 on Saturday!) was at a party on Saturday night. He and a couple other boys got a drive home at 2am with one of the boys' dads.
I guess around 4am, 2 boys- A and D- went back to D's house. D, who had had too much to drink, decided to get in his pool to show A (who does not drink and who was sober) one of his "talents": swimming underwater for a prolonged period of time while holding his breath. Well, it seems that D passed out while doing this. A, by the grace of God, managed to pull D out of the pool, and ran to get D's brother E, who is a head counselor at a kids' camp and knows lifesaving and CPR. E revived D, and I believe at that point E and D's parents (a doctor and a nurse) took D to the hospital or called an ambulance.
Yes, teens can make dumb decisions. Yes, they do things they shouldn't have. This could have turned out very, very differently...these kids were exactly 3 weeks away from graduating when this happened. Give your teen an extra hug tonight, and stress to them the importance of good decision making AND knowing CPR
p.s.- D was in the hospital Saturday and Sunday nights, and was back in school this afternoon. He's ok!
