I will never watch Gone With the Wind again!! What the hell kind of movie was that?!

Can't expect a "Yankee" to understand a wonderful movie like that. LOL:D :)

lol!!! don't get me wrong, i thought the the actual movie was great. the camera angles, lighting, editing etc.
my problem was with the plot. I didn't know whether i should be laughing or crying thru most of it!

frankly my dear, we dont give a dam

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but there are parts of the south that are still like that today. And to some of them "thems fightin' words" saying that you didn't like GWTW. No I guess parts of the south are a combination of GWTW and Deliverance. want to visit?

thanks a lot Corn Flake!!

Megansmom-maybe some other time thanks!! :teeth:

Sure you don't want to reconsider? Summer is the best time to visit the south. Do you remember when Atlanta got the summer Olypics in 96? They told the committee that the daily average temps for July were 85. Only in their dreams, literally, maybe at 1 or 2 in the morning.

OK, I'll try to write this without getting nasty. Please understand that I am a HUGE Gone With the Wind fan, having first seen the movie when I was 9 years old and having read the book right after. Yes, I was a very accelerated reader!

Gone With the Wind has been seen by more people on the planet than any other film in history. If its box office take is translated into 2003 dollars, it blows away the competition in that category also. The novel on which the movie was based won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction in 1936 and other awards also. IMO, Scarlett's character holds up well in 2003. While in the 30's and 40's she was not always seen as a sympathetic character, I see her as a strong woman who knew what she wanted and set out to get it by any means necessary. Gone With the Wind is a true American classic.

By the way, as you can see from my location tag, I am a "Yankee" by birth and an adopted southerner by choice.

I am now stepping down from my soapbox but will be happy to take on other non-"Windys" in the future.

My favorite movie ever!

Yes I'm southern...like y'all didn't know...LOL!

hey I got an ideal, lets start flameing Von :bounce:

YAY!!!! a fellow "Windie"!!!!!! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

GWTW is such a romantic movie. Rhett makes my heart go pitter pat.
i completely agree!!!

the first time i read GWTW, i was in 8th grade. my friends "dared" me to read it for a book report...i read the longest book out of the whole class...and i immediately fell in love with the story...i watched the movie and was smitten with Rhett Butler...*sigh*...when my DH and i dated in high school, i took him to a special 50th anniversary showing of the movie and he became a fellow fan of the movie...even 15 years later, GWTW is still our very favorite movie!

he's not my boyfriend!!! at least not yet! :teeth:

One of my absolute favorites and has been since I was a child. Two things I look forward to: Having time to read the book and watching the movie w/ my DD when she is old enough to appreciate it. My mom has told me that in the book Scarlett is more easily understood bc. you can read her thoughts and realize her motives.
The one thing I have a problem with is the ending. I am a "happily-ever-after" person. (I know this is not reality, but I like it in the fiction I watch/read. It's my way of escaping reality.) So I solved this problem, as a child, by making up my own ending. Rhett and Scarlett DO get back together! I steadfastly REFUSE to accept any other scenario. Never saw/watched the sequel, never will.

BTW-I was Scarlett (hoop skirt and all) at a masquerade party when I was 17. Made my own dress!

i am the very same way!! i've found a few groups out there that write GWTW fan fiction...you can read or if you're one of the brave ones, write about rhett and scarlett's happy ever after! it's kind of fun to see other people's ideas of how things "should have been"...i know...i'm a weirdo...i read and write GWTW fanfic!!
