DH and I had an interesting conversation this morning. I am already longing for another vacation. Although we just stayed at OKW in December and took a weekend away to an indoor waterpark in January AND have the following planned for this year, DCL in May, Lake Tahoe in July, mom & daughter trip, BWV in October, passes to local amusement park for the summer, I still feel that this is not enough! So we discussed how it is that some people can go for years without taking a vacation and we struggle with going a quarter or a year! I know that not everyone can afford a yearly vacation, but there are those that can that don't. So if all of these other people can go without vacations, why can't I? Has DVC made you realize how important time away is? Am I ill?

Oh yes! The more i take the vacation, the more i want to go again. I was in WDW 11/29-12/5 (it was my 18th or 19th trip there) and when I GOT BACK I bought into DVC. I made ressies for April and then again for Nov. And now I have ideas of adding on points!

We had a 5 night DVC vacation in December. We were in Marco Island MLKjr weekend, and in Orlando the first week in February. I am going CRAZY waiting for my spring break to start, March 18th, when we have a 5 night Western Caribbean cruise scheduled.

Part of my problem is that is was chilly for those Florida stays. For me vacations count more if I can swim/snorkel (Typhoon Lagoon is perfect, Castaway Cay is best).

We have always taken mini-vacations. When our DSs were home and we lived in Bucks County PA, I loved the fact that our "daily" newspaper didn't have a Saturday edition, so when we went away for weekends, the boys only needed a sub to deliver the papers on Sunday. DVC hasn't made us want to vacation more, but it's made it easier to decide WHERE to go to relax and enjoy ourselves. We found ourselves going to Disney at least once a year in our first years as empty nesters anyway. We may be late comers, but we enjoy our DVC membership, and so does many in our family and friends.

::yes::

Before we purchased DVC, we had taken ONE vacation in 12 years (except for the "business trips" that we had added a couple of days to...doesn't count in my book). And, our "true" vacation had been to WDW, while our "mini" ones were to DL.

After our dd was born, I knew that if we kept our same path, she would have NO childhood vacation memories. So, I purchased a resale contract thru TTS one day while DH was at work...he came home, and I told him to "sign". He knew I was TOTALLY serious, and didn't give me any problems over this (I really expected the "shouldn't we have talked about this first" speech...but, nothing. He knew I was SOOO right).

We bought last March, and went home for the first time in Dec. We are all the way in Phoenix, so between trying to get time off from work, and paying the added expense of flights from across the country....we really just don't get to go much right now. We are going again in April ("treating" dd best friend and family), and in May (a business trip...my youth show choir is competing at Univ. studios, and performing at WDW) which is driving me crazy because WE are staying off-site while my mom and stepdad are staying on MY points at my beloved BCV (before I ever get to stay there!!!!) since I had to "put them up" to help bribe them to take care of dd while I am busy with my kids, and again in Dec. for our vacation (hopefully at BCV if my new contract will ever show up in DVC's system!!!).

But, WDW is ALL I can think about!!! I think it is the "knowing" that we should be able to go back more often that keeps fueling my "withdrawals". Plus, when you don't have any trips planned, you tend to focus more on "real life", but with DVC...you are always planning your next trip...or two...or three. The energy and time you spend planning keep you mentally "looking" for that trip...which keeps you longing...and creates "add-on-itis". When you're home...you NEVER have enough points!!!!

You KNOW you have "got it bad" when you are seriously thinking of moving to an area "within driving distance" of WDW. We keep thinking about moving to Atlanta or North Carolina just so we could keep from having to pay airfare, and therefore spend more vacation time in WDW!!! Then, we could use the plane money and add-on!!!!! That would be SOOOO cool!!!

Our family just went to WDW in Dec 04, and weren't planning on going back until 06, because we were out of points (50 pt contract). DH and I were talking in late Jan and I had mentioned taking a quick trip in May. To my surprise, he said OK. I took care of the room, we're renting points from a DISer, and we've already got the tickets leftover from last year.

I really believe that DVC "forces" us to get away, and makes us want to go back, or on another vacation at least. Which is a good thing to me. :teeth:

I have always traveled. Dh not so much.... I have stayed in flea bags and 5 star hotels.

When the kids came along, we traveled a bit, but found regular hotel rooms to be too small for us.... esp with the small kids. Heck, naptime, what are the parents suppose to do... I became very good at creating an adults lounge in the bathroom... lol

Then we stayed at OKW.... in a two bedroom.... YAYAYAYAYAY Great villas... that happen to be surrounded with more stuff to do than just about any other place and we were hooked.

We try and take at least 2 trips to WDW, 1 to HHI and then a couple of smaller trips here and there to fill in the blanks.

Beacuse of DVC we can travel as much as we like and know that our accomindations will fit our lifestyle.

LOVE IT

I remember the days when I was a child and my family went to WDW yearly or every other year. Then there was a span when the vacations stopped, you are out on your own, working, getting married and having babies.

In Jan was our first family vacation to WDW and wow the memories came flooding back and now it is a decision that we will take our family to WDW as often as possible before they too grow up.

People are busy these days, families dont have enough time together, these vacations are what we need...you are totally away......It truly is the most magical place on earth

When I look back at my childhood, I remember the good times. There were lots. Many of those involved vacations, even little ones within PA. My dad was a State Police Officer and a contractor and my mom raised 3 of us. He made it a point to vacation. Fishing trips, hunting trips, parks, Yellowstone, WDW, Washington, baseball/football Hall of Fame, Great Lakes, family. It was important to my parents and it's important to my wife and me. I could go once a month if I had the wherewithal. We do become closer as a family and my son LEARNS things. This last trip, he started pin trading and you could see him becoming more confident dealing with stangers. We tell kids to avoid strangers. We should be telling them how to deal with strangers. Many strangers become friends.

As a teacher, I see too many of my students who have NEVER left our rural central PA county, even as seniors. They have little concept of the world. VAcationing is the safe way to explore, grow, and learn. In my opinion, too few parents make it a point to bond and vacation. Even if that vacation is just a day trip to stay overnight in a state park...it's that important.
