How do you decide what to look for? I've been searching art.com and allposters.com ALL DAY trying to decide what to put in my family room, and I'm still clueless. I just don't have a "theme" idea. Just wondering, how do you know what to look for?

We went with the african and safari theme and I Love it.It only took me going to AK once to find my theme for my living room and I dont think I will be changing anytime soon.
We try to do things diffrent than anyone else.Every room in my house is a diffrent color. My living room is 3 diffrent colors:earseek: .So I would say that when you run across the right one you will know it.
You can find some pretty pictures at Walmart, and Target. We bought alot of ours at Ben Franklins.

I spent several weeks recently doing the same thing. Previously all my artwork had been collected over the years and had special memories - like we got it on vacation, we knew the artist, etc. Then we redecorated the living room in totally a totally different color palate. I spent several months trying to find the right colors and style that fit the room. Then one day I was in Target, of all places, and found a print I loved that was in the perfect colors etc. So after all that looking, I found something already framed for $20. LOL! It really doesn't even look cheap.

Good luck - it's a hard job!

If you have children, you can frame their art work - add a border and it can look really nice!

We just added on a room in our house. Its palm trees. I love it. Its so tranquil. I do alot of reading out there. Its in different shades of green and it really looks nice. I even bought fake long grass and ***** willows from A>C> Moore, I have them in a vase. My DD yrs old says we don't have to go on vacation anymore cause the room is so bright .

We have Firetrucks all over ours . That is the theme for the family room . That one seemed easy to get , the kitchen was a fight for everyone but me :teeth:
I won since I am the cook ....MICKEY it is :earsboy:

I have purchased alot of art work at michael's over the years. It is certainly not "good art" you can get nice framed pictures at a reasonable place. We also have a few pieces from a "starving artist sale" - good source of real oil paintings. What I do is really more colored based then theme based. I look for things that I like that are in the color family of my room. You don't necessarily have to be in a theme. That said, I guess it would look bad if I mixed real modern art or safari themes. I tend towards, florals, landscapes, buildings that type of stuff that seems to blend well together. Over time I am replacing the Michael's stuff with "better art". Once a year I go to an Art show and try to get one item. I also try to check out galleries when I travel. My favorites - 2 framed disney winnie the pooh cells from the art store in downtown disney. They were in the nursery when my son was first born. Now one is in his room because he said it was "his" picture even though his room is totally thomas the tank engine except for this. For his thomas room, I did something that you probably can't do in a family room. I couldn't find thomas pictures so I bought a really good thomas book that had full page pictures. I then carefully took the book apart, picked the pages that I liked and matted and framed them. Really finished off his room!!
