Artists at DLR

I don't normally go inside the shops and stuff all that much at DLR until my last trip in august...I found myself spending more and more time in the all the shops! i was addicted to Disney-shopping.
anyways i noticed in some shop on main st and in a store in DCA there were artists who drew a disney animated character for like $30-something. I was really interested in this and plan on maybe purchasing one when I go in Oct.
But I was just wondering, has anyone here ever bought one? Do they draw whoever you want? Does anyone know where i can get any more info on this?

I actually have two of these. I picked one up on my first Disney World trip in 2008, a second one on my recent Disneyland trip, and plan to get one for each subsequent trip. I really like the way they look, and they are relatively inexpensive for being hand-drawn (although as they add more characters the prices start going up.) At DLR, the sketches are done in the Off the Page store at California Adventure. The artist on duty will have a portfolio book that you can browse througth to see what they have available (the selection will vary from artist to artist.) You can't get custom items, but the selection in the books is big enough that you'll probably be able to find what you're looking for anyway. When you choose an item they'll take an order, and you'll select things like shading color and custom text, and also if you want a frame or not (the framing costs about $35 last time I checked.) After this, you'll be told roughly how long it will take before the sketch is ready (if it won't be done until after your trip is over, you might be able to arrange shipping, but this seemed a bit hit-or-miss when I checked.) If you are going to do this, plan on getting there early, as the artists will stop taking orders once their time for the day is booked. Also note that sketches with more than one character will cost extra.

My dad, being an artist, was obbsessed with watching this on our last trip. He got so excited when we said we wanted to shop, so he could go spend some time with the artist. He's 71 years old and said that would be his dream job right now, so cute.

Thanks for the heads up of ordering early since we'll only be there for 2 days in Dec and I figured it would be a great Xmas gift for Dad.

How cool is this. I had no idea you could get this, my DD would love to watch the artist sketch a picture for her, Art is her thing. Can anyone tell me approximately how much the drawings cost?
