DH and I are heading down during free dining for a 5 day trip with no kids. :cool1: (God bless DMIL, is all I have to say!!) So we are looking at where to go for dinner. Both AP and Jiko take two credits and we only have 4 nights so don't want to do both and use all our TS credits. Plan to do the DDP again someday when the kids are along, so which one would you do without them?

both are great - I would go Artist Pointe....

I like AKL during the day time when you can see the animals.

My DH & I went in May 2004 & we had a very romantic dinner at Jiko's (great service & food!); also had a very good experience at AP (my parents met us there for dinner; food was also great!) - atmosphere was more informal (too me). I guess b/c Jiko's is darker; it seemed more intimate. I think you'd be happy with either!

I've never been to Artist Point but if I ever went to WDW kid-free I'd choose Jiko. A.K.L. was one of the few places I've been where I really wished I didn't have DS. I could have spent hours looking at all the art work, reading all the little signs. It was like being in a museum! So I'd plan a few hours there exploring, have dinner on the early side and then pull up a few rocking chairs to watch the sunset on the Savannah!

Having said that, I found that every restaurant we went to on the DDP was TOO MUCH food. If I was on a "couples" trip I'd probably do a lot of signature restaurants and just split one meal. If you did that you could enjoy both places.

I did both on our trip last May/June because I couldn't decide between the two.

I'd give Jiko the slight edge and recommend that one for atmosphere, romance, food, wine, and service. ;)

Artist Point is great for food and decor but it's not at all intimate. The high ceiling and open dining room area mean it's a bit noisy and echo-ey for dinner a deux without kids. I also vote for Jiko.

:) I would pick Jiko. It is our favorite place to dine at WDW. It's been just the wife and I on our trips for sometime and we really enjoy going to Jiko for dinner. We always walk around the AKL before or after dinner and just enjoy viewing the animals and the atmosphere of the lodge. There store there is also very different many things that you will not find any place else at Disney.

Both outstanding choices. We like the menu at Jiko better, but you will enjoy either.....

When DW and I did a kid-less trip there last October we went to Jiko.

We've eaten at both restaurants and enjoy both resorts. Given the choice, we would eat at Jiko. My wife and I enjoy the menu a little more than Artist Point. However, you really can't go wrong with either dining experience. :)
