Artist Point bad? I don't think so!

Last Tuesday night. My family (wife and two daughters) ate at AP after a long time away. I have to wonder why did we stay away? Everything, I mean EVERY SINGLE THING was A+!!!

We started with appy's, (1) Crab Cake (2) Cheese platter (3) Smokey portobello soup. A+, A+, A+.

Main courses were (1) Scallops and risotto (2) Cedar Plank Salmon (3) Buffalo strip and (4) Halibut. A+, A+, A+, A+.

Greeting. A+. Service A+ (x 2). Ambiance A+.

A+A+A+A+A+A+A+A+A+A+A+A+A+!!!!!!!!

That's great to hear, we have a reservation there for our upcoming trip. It will be our first time trying it out, so hopefully we'll have the same experience as you!

NOTE: Artist Point was a highly respected and highly touted
eatery up to 2007. Since that time it changed, and the food
quality and menu item uniqueness began to pale. They have lately
made some changes to revive the quality of the food and service.
It still has a way to go to live up its past reputation. Artist Point
is still a good restaurant, just not superior as it once was.

As a postscript, if you eat there, get a window table. The view of the
courtyard and lake are grand and romantic, versus just looking
at the rest of the dining room. Also, arrive early and have a drink
in the Territory Lounge. It is one of the better bars in WDW.

Agreed on Artist Point - we've had some amazing meals there this past summer. Amazing, creative dishes with a Pacific Northwest touch. The berry cobbler is also closer now to what it was a few years ago - the version last summer paled in comparison.

The current buffalo strip dish is probably my favorite red meat dish at WDW.

You may be right, but Tuesday night it was SUPERIOR in every way.

BTW, I agree that in the original 'Signature' days AP was truly a superior diamond in the rough and did indeed drop over time but on Tuesday night, I stand by my review.

Agreed. I've eaten at all the signatures 2-5 times in the past 4 months, and I'd put Artist Point at the top in terms of food, along with Citricos and Jiko. In comparison, Flying Fish would be a C+ and California Grill would be a solid D

We tried Artist Point for the first time this past December and we LOVED it . We had filet and salmon and everything was amazing.....we can't wait to go back on a future trip .

For me, my last meal at California Grill was really disappointing. Not terrible, but disappointing. That's why I'd give it a D (if Artist Point was a B).

My scale (in terms of food) would be:

Artist Point: A+
Citricos: A+
Jiko: A+
Yachtsman: A
Flying Fish: A-
Brown Derby: B+
Le Cellier: B
Narcoossee's: B
California Grill: B-

But if Artist Point is a B, then I would have to adjust the curve accordingly. I'm sure you'll have a great time at Flying Fish.

We like Citricos too! In fact, we switch Artist Point and Citircos as the first/last meal on each trip. This year, Citricos is FIRST!!

Well in the real world, I'm not so critical. Sometimes I like to put on my foodie goggles and pretend to be a Top Chef judge. Disney dining gives me that opportunity, since WDW is basically a world of (always changing) food.

I'd say that scale only represents my opinion of the signature restaurants against each other. For example, I really enjoyed my recent meal at Tokyo Dining, and I wouldn't rate it a C just because it's not at the level of the signatures.

BTW great choice starting/ending with Artist Point or Citricos.

Artist Point changed head chefs about a 18 or so months ago. I believe Marco Chavez was at Coral Reef Restaurant Epcot before coming over to Artist Point.
Those who haven't tried it in a couple years may find it changed.

This is the perfect example of not going by other people's opinions because me AND DH did not like Citirico's at all and did not think our meal was at all worth being over $100. Jiko, great food, Narcoosee's was pretty good, and Cali Grill was pretty good. Haven't eaten at the others yet, but will definitley try Artist Point!

Disclosure. My giving it an A+ is in relation to other WDW dining only, not Mobil, AAA, Zagat, rankings. I'm certainly NOT saying it is better than The French Laundry but I am saying it was the best dining experience I've had at WDW in a long, long time, including my perennial WDW favorites Bluezoo and Shula's. I might add, I was very, very surprised.

We ate at AP last October and enjoyed it very much. Especially DH, he had the buffalo dish. I was disappointed in the berry cobbler, has it changed since then?

We are going back in late October again. Glad to hear it's still good. The one I'm really worried about is California Grill. We are taking friends that have never been, and have told them about it for years.
