Down here at Disney now and probably not going to do a park tomorrow (despite the park reservation system which the less said about the better). Wondering if there is a gate at the Art of Animation resort to enter. My assumption is that now that the Skyliner lands there, there is, but we were looking for some alternatives and were contemplating this as just something to do.

You have to enter past a guard shack. And most say they will not let you in without a reservation. No problem arriving by Disney bus or Skyliner though.

Disney has gotten wise to people trying to 'game' the parking fees by parking at a resort for free. This is the reason they are more strict about allowing you to park at one of the resorts near a theme park. Those free parking lots would fill up and people actually staying at that resort would have no place to park.

Even if you have an ADR there is a time limit on how long you can park there. I am sure the guards have heard all sorts of clever excuses about why someone wants to park there when their true intent is to avoid the parking fee.

Arriving by any form of Disney transportation is a better alternative since no one ever asks where you are coming from or where you are going. Then you can shop/eat or just walk around the resort.

As others have said, you’ll have an easier time of it on Disney transportation.

Where are you staying?

(The gate/guard pre-dates the SkyLiner by many years (since the resort opened IIRC).)
