Hi all
I read somewhere (not on the DIS) that AoA buses do not stop at other resorts (before or after arriving at AoA). Sounds too good to be true. If it is true, how often do the buses run to the various parks?

They don't. Why does it sound too good to be true, though? Most resorts don't share, and a lot of the ones that do, don't share all the time.
Buses from resorts to parks run about every 20 minutes.

While other resorts may not stop at other resorts (share) they do make other stops within the resort! AoA and Pop are the only two resorts that offer bus service that makes no addtl stops once you get on the bus.
For instance...POR, CBR, and CSR all have their own bus routes...don't stop at other resorts (well, POR can often be mixed with POFQ). But, they do make multiple stops within the resort! Sometimes 4 or 5 stops!

It sounded too good to be true because on my last 2 trips to the world it seemed that every bus I was on or waiting for made multiple stops before/after I got on.

If AoA doesn't share routes or make extra stops, is there a need to have a rental car during my stay?

A rental car is a very personal choice. I've sometimes wished I had one when waiting for DTD buses, but that's about it...and that has been my experience across the board. If at AoA or Pop, you get on the bus and go to your destination. With the AllStar resorts, you might stop at all three, or maybe just your resort. AKL and Kidani are combined. As I said earlier, all the moderates have their own route/bus, but they make at least 4 stops within the resort before leaving the resort property. The deluxe resorts pretty much share with other resorts. SSR does not, but there are multiple stops within the resort. OKW does not share, but has multiple stops within.
You have to think of WDW transportation as public transportation......it works pretty efficiently, but it isn't always quick. If speed is really important to you, you may find having a car is a better choice.

The AoA and Pop buses normally don't stop at other resorts because those are the 2 largest resorts on property.

But there are no guarantees on Disney Transport. Occasionally, a bus from AoA will stop at Pop (or vice versa) if the bus is not full and there are a lot of Guests waiting at the other resort.
