I plan on going to a design college and was wondering if anyone is currently at one. I live in Mass and could easily go to MassArt but I'd prefer to attend RISD :rotfl: however, I'm not at all against moving around the country so if you know of a really good college out of New England review it please :)

Also, what do you think i should include in my portfolio? I have graphic design experiance from school that includes (movie posters, billboards, packaging, public relations, etc) and know that I need to draw lots of still lives.

Thanks :dogdance:

I didn't go to a design school but I just graduated with my BS in Interior Design. You could say I went to a design school within a liberal arts school because I still had those crazy design school hours!

If you look at the schools you're thinking of applying to, they usually have portfolio requirements depending on what major you want to declare. I know RISD has specific projects they want you to complete and submit like the infamous RISD bike.

It may be helpful to post your portfolio online and ask for feedback from random users as well

Mass Colleg of Art is an awesome school or RISD if you get a HUGE scholarship.:rotfl2:

I absolutely loved it and couldn't imagine doing anything else but that being said it's a lot of long days and sleepless nights. I was extremely fortunate and had a small class (11 girls) and we were like family to each other so I had a fantastic support system which helped me tremendously. You're not going to have a crazy social life like most college kids which is usually what turns people off.

At my school the freshman interior design class usually starts at around 50-60 people and drops down to 15-20 people by junior year. We don't cut anyone, this is people leaving from their own free will. People just discover it's a lot more architecture and engineering than picking out paint colors and cute fabrics.

It's going to be the same way with any major though, if you love what you're doing you'll put in the hours and the work no matter what. If you hate it, you're not going to put in the effort because it won't seem worth it. If you have the opportunity, try taking a summer course at the school you're interested. I live close to NYC so I was able to take a pre-college course in Interior Design at Parsons. That way you get exposure to it without having to be fully dedicated to it.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

I have a few mates that attend SCAD, and they all absolutely LOVE it. It's in Savannah, Georgia, so it's quite far from you...but I have heard nothing but great things about it.

Good luck with finding a college!

SCAD has two main schools in GA, One in ATL and one in Savannah. It is an amazing school, I've had many friends attend it. They have programs where you can go to one of their overseas campuses and study there too. They have one in Hong Kong and another in France. If your willing to go outof state, it is very well worth it. In ATL they bought an old holiday inn and converted it entirely to dorms for SCAD. And they have connections with the high museum and Woodruff arts center. They did a whole bunch of classes when the terracotta warriors came. Anyways, yeah, it might not be on your radar cause its a ways away, but it is very cool.

Hi

Graphic designing is a wonderful career. I want to suggest to add few things in your portfolio. The most important in your capabilities. Mention that you are capable of extensive experience dealing with clients, experience managing multiple projects at once and so on. Do mention about you software skills in detail specifically design related. Do mention about any awards you have got or any contests which you participated, been featured anywhere or have had any shows.
Employers love to see that you are involved in the design community so if you belong to any design organizations then list them!

These things will add a lot of value to your profile.
