I've been having a bit of problem with my left knee since I started running. My doctor says that I have patellofemoral pain syndrome and suggested that I go to see a physio - I ended up seeing a chiropractor instead. The treatment that he's doing is called Active Release Technique (ART). I've only had one treatment so far and it seems pretty good.

I was wondering if anyone else has gone in for ART and what they thought of it. The reason I ask is because the sessions are pricey and my insurance plan only covers 50% but has a maximum limit for each session. I hate to seem cheap and price shop for this sort of thing but the sessions are going to eventually add up.

Hello!!

I work part time for a chiropracter who is an ART specialist and I have had great results with some shoulder issues.

The essential difference between strict PT or chiropractic work is the muscular/myofacial work that goes along with it; which is why many athletes prefer it.

If you have any specific questions, feel free to PM me.

Sorry for the delay - just saw your question.

I've been seeing a chiropractor for ART for my plantar fasciitis since mid-December. A couple of people in my running group and my brother highly recommended it. I've definitely seen improvement. I'm far from cured (after probably 10-15 sessions), but am much better than I was and was able to run the half with much less pain than I'd expected. My insurance doesn't cover any of it, so I'm paying for it out of pocket - ouch!

:goodvibes Thanks for your replies Kevin and Jackie!

So far, I've only been in for two sessions so far but I can definitely feel the difference. I also like that my chiro watched me run on the TM for a little while and gave me feedback on my form and training plan.

I get a lot of funny looks when I tell people that I'm going to a chiro to treat my knee. But I think as long as it's working, I'm happy. I guess a lot of people still think of chiropractic services for treating the back and neck but my chiro tells me that's not the case as much anymore.

I am so glad to see this post! I have seen a chiropractor who does ART for my shoulder. I was recently told by an orthopedist that I have chondomalacia (Runner's knee) and was trying to decide if the chiropractor could help me with that. I actually have an appointment to see him on Friday for a check up. I think that maybe I'll mention it to him. He worked wonders with my shoulder!

Let me know how it goes for you! :goodvibes I had my weekly appointment yesterday and my chiropractor told me that in a couple of sessions I should be able to go it alone for a couple of weeks. I was surprised because I thought this was one of those things that takes a while but I guess not.

I saw the chiropractor yesterday. He said that my biggest problem is that I have no stability in my knee. I told him that the ortho guy that I saw said I needed to strengthen my quads. He said he has had guys come into his office that are ripped in their legs and can lift 500 lbs. but still have knee pain because of lack of stability.

The exercise that he told me to do is while wearing shorts (so I can see my kneecap) to practice standing on one foot with my knee slightly bent, making sure that my kneecap is over my foot. He also told me ablsolutely no running until we solve this problem, but I can do walking to build up endurance. He said he sees this problem all the time and he should be able to help me. :thumbsup2
