We leave Orlando at 605pm (local time - which I'm also calling body time!). We arrive in Manchester at 7:25am local time BUT (if i've done my sums right 2.25am body time). I don't much like the idea of driving home essentially in the middle of the night after being up all day. Do you know if the Radisson allows you to check in like at 8am so that we can get some sleep, spend the day in Manchester maybe, get an early night and maybe beat the jet-lag before driving home???

having lots of experience with jet lag.... your best bet is to try and stick it out as long as you can .. and go to bed in UK time as late as you can make it.

By sleeping during the day and keeping yourself on USA time, it will make your jet lag MUCH worse and when it comes to bed time.. you wont be able to sleep!

You will probably get some sleep on the plane, and then as its very light when you get back to the UK .. that kind of wakes you up too...

What about getting a friend to take you to the airport, or failing that go on the train and then get a taxi home?

I agree that trying to readjust to local time asap is the quickest way to get over jet lag BUT I think its a good idea to have a sleep before driving.

Sorry I have no experience with manchester but have had a day room in the past at Gatwick .

If you have no option other than self-drive then definitely book a room - better than falling asleep at the wheel

We now get the train back, have driven staight home in the past. Most people recommend not going to bed during the 'day' you get back. My neighbour did last year, he said it was the worst jet-lag he's ever had. We are using train again this year-trouble is Nephew has just announced he's getting married the day we get back. Have warned my sister we'll be nice and brown at the wedding-but probably asleep by 6pm!! I wonder if wedding cake makes a comfortable pillow!:rotfl2:

When we flew back from Antigua a few years ago we had to drive from Heathrow and it was a nightmare, my dad was driving so we all just tried to keep him alert by singing etc. I would agree that the best way to get over the jet lag is by staying up, but I would think it was a good idea to have a rest before you drive home. I think you should be able to nap on the plane though.

Even though I sleep for 7 hours on the plane I still prefer to be picked up, taxi costs me £85 return (1 hour each way). By the time I pay for parking and petrol its not worth the hassle to drive. Last weekend I slept 7 hours on plane then 40 mins in taxi, not had jet lag at all.
Dont know how much a hotel would cost( I believe many have a day rate) but add that to parking and petrol its going to be v expensive.
