I think it will depend on your carrier. For example SWA says on their website to arrive one hour early. I do think you should factor in what time of day and which day you are flying. Good luck!

The other thing to consider is they sometimes check EVERY car that comes through, instead of just random. The local news usually reports when it's happening, but there's really no way of knowing before hand.

Laurabelle is correct ... BWI has frequently been checking every car that comes to the airport. How early you arrives depends on many factors ... Where are you coming from? If driving, where are you parking? What transportation do you need from the parking space to the airport? Do you need to check-in before you go through security? I would rather sit around & wait at the gate than be late arriving at the gate.
