Arrival day question

I posted this early this morning but it seems all my posts since the 24th have disappeared. I am going to try this again.

We will be arriving around noon on our first day and I am trying to come up with a small MK plan. I do not want to stay for any fireworks as I want my kids to be rested for the first full day. At the same time though, I don't want to waste an opportunity with practically an entire day in front of us.

Our room obviously won't be ready at noon so I have the dilemma of spending the afternoon in MK or spending it at Pop with no room to change clothes in for swimming. I don't think we want to be in the parks in the heat of the day on a travel day (I will have been up since 4am for a 7am flight) but I obviously can't take a load off and sleep either. How would you work it? What kind of evening or afternoon itinerary would you have for MK. What are the short line rides later in the day? I honestly don't know as I usually hit Epcot the first day. This will be my first time hitting MK first.

Sure hope some of this makes sense because I feel all scatter brained typing this nonsense out. heh

Why not just hang out at the hotel for a bit? Walk around, explore it, roam the souvenir shop, go to the pool (you can change in the bathrooms), or go to the food court, and enjoy a relaxing time. :)

If there is a Spectro parade then just plan to see that... our first night is nice because we don't plan anything. Do MK with the intention of fireworks and play the rest by ear.

You could try to book a character meal for dinner that night and make it an early night. That way the kids get to see the characters but you don't have to go to the park. Or if you are going to MK, you could do the parade, it's around 3 pm everyday and get that out of the way so when you go back you can just do the rides. I would also recommend taking the WDW railroad, it's right by the MK entrance, it's about 20 mins and runs all around the park (except during parade time), then you can gauge how crowded the park is and if and what rides you'd like to go on. Also if your kids are into it you can spend the afternoon greeting characters and collecting autographs so you don't have to do that when you go back for the rides.

Just have fun!

well we just had a simular arrival at mco and by the time we got to me and to our resort and got checked in it was after2 then we grabed our swim suits out of the carry ons and droped them at bell services got suited up and in the pool and the call came that the room was ready(if you tell them to give you a call they will call insted of message you but dont do like my wife answer the phone and not note what room they tell you to go to)and our bags from me were actauly in the room by the time we got there
you think you have a lot of time but unless you are actauly at the resort at noon by the time you get to a park it could be 3 or 4 pm if not later so we normly just plan to hang out at the resort and dtd on arival day

We will be at the resort by noon. It is a Wednesday and there is no spectro that night. At least not yet. May 26th.

I thought about ADR but decided against it just in case our flight actually ran late for some reason. ONe thing I want to avoid is sitting around. I will fall asleep if I do that on this particular day due to the time I had to get up. Unless I am able to get into our room early, the last thing I want to do is sit and relax. My kids will have slept on the plane and will be somewhat ready to go. I can't sleep on a plane.

We pretty much had to do the same thing back in 2008 and as long as I kept upright and walking I didn't tire out. ONly difference is we went to Epcot then. I really want my daughter to see MK on our first night since this is her first trip to the world. Otherwise I would go Epcot again since it is more laid back in the afternoon than any other park.

LOVE the PP's ideas above...all of them...

((HUGS))

My main comment is... Don't totally write off that they won't have a room ready for you...because we have checked in at 9:30am and had a room ready....:cool1:

Actually ...it almost aggravated me at the time...because I wanted to commando to MK....and there we were in our rooms...girls fixing hair...DS watching TV...DH lounging on the bed....:headache:

If you want to head to MK...that sounds Great... Parade and Wishes ideas sound perfect... then on your regular park day...you can spend those times riding rides while lines are long....

Have a magical visit !

If we are lucky enough to get into our room when we arrive, I most likely will hang around for wishes just to get it out of the way. I love it but would rather be riding rides.

Same for my family... We arrive on a Sat @ 9:30... Im thinking we'll be at the resort by 11 and hopefully to the MK by 1... I felt the same way about not wanting to waste a day but I said screw it... We'll be well rested... I did book a rather late dinner reservation for 7pm figured we would be back to our room by 10 and should be good for a long nights rest for our 1st full day... Hopefully everything goes as planned!

It even has me wondering if we shouldn't just get our luggage ourselves rather than have ME handle it for us just so it is all there when we need it.
