Returning from Magic Kingdom Extra Magic Hours Friday night one of my gals got knocked off her bike when she ran into a armadillo! She was a trooper all day and after hitting all 3 mountains and having a non-stop all action day, had to bike ride to the 1700 loop at 1:30 am, she was a little bit bewildered to say the least but came out of it with pretty much minor bumps and scratches! The armadillo just shot out from the bushes and she hit him good. So watch out!

MB!

Hope your little gal is doing fine.

(I'd almost bet that the otters put him up to it.)

Wow! Did that armadillo get into someone's stash of 5 Hour Energy? I never saw an armadillo "rush" out of anywhere!!

Glad you're DD is okay!

First, it's otters stealing beer, now it's armadillos stealing 5 Hour Energy. What's the Fort coming to? :confused3

Hmmmm. Riding a bike at FW at 1:30 in the morning? I'm assuming she had a light on the bike?

Oh, oh, I have a bad feeling about where this thread is heading. Can't wait.

Hey!! I've read the rules and there is no such thing as a bike riding curfew. I've been known to go bike riding at 0300. It's less crowded, no cars or buses to contend with, and a heck of a lot cooler!

Okay, maybe I should have specified child riding bike at 1:30 am. How many speeding armadillos have you accidentally run over, Deb?

I've run over my share on the interstate - but never hit any when riding a bike. I have whapped a few with my purse while chasing them out of my yard. (An armadillo will ruin a lawn in no time), and Rick has popped several with his 22. Lawn maintenance in Florida is not for amateurs.

Those armadillos actually move pretty fast. I didn't think they would but found out otherwise on one of our trips to the Fort. We were riding the cart around looking for them cause I wanted to get a picture. We found them and I got off the cart and moved closer and closer and my husband said you better not get too close and I said oh they don't move fast no problem. Next thing I knew that sucker took off like a bat out of you know where towards me and scared the crap out of me. My husband just laughed and laughed. Don't let those armadillos fool ya. :rotfl:

I've heard they're forming gangs and throwing down with the otters over the beer...

Too funny! :rotfl: I remember once I was walking to the trading post after dark to post some mail, and I kept hearing a "clicking" sound behind me. It was following me step for step and stopped when I stopped, moved when I moved. As I got more & more nervous I finally decided to whirl around and turn on my flashlight and see what it was! It turned out to be a big armadillo who scurried into the bushes once I put the light on it! I wasn't sure whether to be scared or amused! It was scary though - think I was like 17 at the time! :rolleyes1

We've camped in 333 and 334 a few times and there's an enormous Cypress tree right between them. All around it are little "caves" in the roots/knees and holes in the dirt that apparently function as Armadillo Central.

Being from NH, our dogs don't know what to do with them. When Bz saw her very first one a couple of years ago (we named him "Barry") she just stood there staring at it and cocking her head back and forth as if she was trying to decide what the heck it was. It waddled away as she watched.

I've stayed at the Fort twice and haven't seen any Armadillos. But I haven't seen any Black Bears or Otters either. I've seen lots of Armadillos driving down World Dr. and an Otter at PI though.

I trap armadillos for a living, I hope your daughter is alright. They are about the most clueless animal in the world next to Canadian Geese. Glad she did not kill him "That would be cutting in to my profit"

Maybe Disney should give out literature warning of armadillos.

I saw so many armadillos at Fort Wilderness the week we were there in April! Well, I heard them more than I saw them. They are very loud when they dig around in the leaves. I only noticed them at night. Didn't see or hear any during the day.

We don't have armadillos up here in the Frozen North, so seeing them there is a treat! They're so cool!
