It appears he felt the "alleged" shooter was connected to the tea party. They said they have taken the survivor to a mental health facility for evaluation, I am sure the whole experience has been stressful on him and other survivors.

You have to wonder how he got that idea. Turns out the nut who did it is a wacko.

I think Loughner is just a nut. A garden variety, equal opportunity, loony toon, few bricks short of a full load NUT. Not a right wing nut, not a left wing nut, just a nut-nut, as my mother used to say. He really didn't require any prodding or encouragement to become a nut.....He was destined for that path, for whatever reason. It happens. If you've even had a friend or family member who went over the edge and disappeared into full-blown crazy, then you know what I mean. I'm not talking about depression, bipolar, etc. What's truly scary about them is that you look at them and remember what they WERE, yet realize they are no longer "with us", so to speak. The first couple of psychotic people I met (in court) shook me to the core because it was just flat out disturbing to look in someone's eyes and realize THEIR reality was unlike anyone's else's in the room, courthouse, city, well, you get it. They just weren't "there" with us. I can't say where they were, but the mind had separated from the body, that's for certain.

Yes, I know there's a nicer word for it than "nut." But since I can't say exactly what his issue is, I'll just use that....or crazy. Because he is. Maybe not legally insane, but......

At any rate, I think a bird singing too loudly could have set him off. It really took precious little, if anything. It was bound to happen.

Regardless, clearly both emotions and attention to threats are running high. My question is whether such a threat would have been taken so seriously, and such definitive action taken, if it weren't for the tragedy, and, just like we've seen with other recent tragedies of all sorts, once the passion subsides, will people/society go back to not taking things so seriously, not taking such positive action in response to such things, etc.

Sounds like it. Maybe getting shot like that made him have a "break" with reality.

Actually I thought the google link was quite helpful because it directed the OP to actual objective, factual sources of news about the incident. What you posted above wasn't exactly a news source...it was poorly written, subjective, and missing quite a few facts. If you go to the actual news sources found through google, you can find out exactly what he did, what he said, who he threatened, where it occurred, etc. Facts.
