Arizona Grand Canyon Question?

The Family is driving from Phoenix AZ to Colorado ... I expect to go through Flagstaff and Tuba City.

Can anyone with knowledge of the area suggest a good place to spend a day taking photos etc? Would Grand Canyon Village be good?

Also, any suggestions on a hotel in that area? Don't mind driving to Tuba City .... anything on the way to Colorado would work.

Any other suggestions?
