We are taking a one day trip to DL in a couple of weeks. It is going to be a surprise and I thought we would go to Ariels Grotto the night we got in for dinner and then DL the next day. Is this right that I have to pay admission to get into DCA to have dinner at Ariels Grotto?

ETA: What about purchasing a twilight ticket. Would I be able to use that to get into DCA and then use it for the last hour of DL. Or is it good for only one park?

Yes, you have to pay park admission if you are going to eat at any of the restaurants in the parks - makes sense. I would go to Goofy's Kitchen at the DL Hotel. It's very fun and you don't have to go in the parks to enjoy it :thumbsup2

Yes you do need admission for Ariel's.

I looked through the calendar, and the hours seem to vary a lot in the upcoming 30 days. I only see 3 days of 5 o'clock closing, October 16, 22, and 23. It does seem to close at 6 a lot, but there are also some later evenings as well. (I wonder if the early days are b/c of the Halloween parties?)

Aw man. I guess we are going to have to figure something else out. I would hate to pay for admission and not even be able to use it except to eat.

why not get a park hopper spend first part day in dl and secoudn part in dca

You could do Goofy's or Storytellers for dinner and not pay for admission. Or you could do Rainforest Cafe in DTD and not pay admission. Otherwise I would suggest getting there earlier, getting a PH for the day, eating at Ariel's and then going to DL for the rest of the evening. :)

They won't let you make dinner ressies for Aeriels Grotto when the park closes at 6pm or earlier!

Yes, 4:40 was the last seating. Their dinner seating. We will be coming from Vegas so a PH isn't worth the $. Shoot. Great marketing to have that darn princess dinner over in DCA.

No Twilight Tickets that I've ever heard of. Sorry! :(

They are convention tickets that can only be used after 4pm to close. I just am not sure if they are for both parks.

Like others have suggested, I also recommend Goofy's Kitchen or Storytellers. Both are not in either park but in the Disney hotels. They aren't princess themed if that is what you have your heart set on.

Conventions often sell those twilight tickets to those attending their conference so they can attend Disney parks in the evening only. Can you find out if it is a park hopper or not? My guess is that it is only for Disneyland since it is good for after 4:30 and DCA closes early.
