Ariel's Grotto - best time to do it without a fast pass?

I'd like to include this in our touring plan, but I don't want to use a fast pass for it. Is this possible? I also don't want to go to it right at park opening. How long is the wait time usually in late January? How is it at the end of the night?

Standard advice, shortest standbys for everything are at park open and park close. Waits for AG don't typically exceed 35-45 minutes most days, but YMMV.
