at least worth at try?

I know people get their favs...but...

I don't know when we will be able to go back...but I am on a mission...I want to eat at every different restaurant that is in WDW. Disney is the best with theming and decor...even if the food is less than wonderful...generally the atmosphere makes up for it...

Can anyone claim to have eaten at each different restaurant? Refering mostly to TS...

Sometimes, I get a little frustrated with how some restaurants are bashed and butchered and some are so highly acclaimed...how can any restaurant truly live up to either the highs or lows all the time?

People just have different tastes. When it comes to service, it really depends on who you get, what kind of mood there in, etc. Just like with any restaurant.

We've been to WDW many times and are trying to eat at different restaurants everytime. We're there for a week at a time, so we're able to knock out quit a few. Now, we do throw in some that we have eaten at before b/c we just love them!!

I LOVE WDW!!!!

Its also a wait and see thing for us.......We tried a few restaurants and it wasnt because the food wasnt good or the food wasnt prepared good....It was because we DIDNT care for that type......but we tried it and If we had liked sour cream on our lamb we may of enjoyed it....
I am glad in a way that we all have likes and dislikes......or else we would not be able to get into any restaurants.....
thanks for your post.......I have missed out on a few of the ts restaurants in World Showcase..

Take a look at my signature below, jmsadams. :thumbsup2 I agree with you-no dining spot can live up to everyone's expectations. I do read reviews and such, yet we always go with a place simply because we want to have new experiences. There are one or two places we will not return to-yet we don't regret having dined there! :upsidedow

I agree. On my past 2 trips, I have been trying to eat at some new restaurants for me. I found that I was getting into a rut and it was time to try new places. And guess what? I found some really great restaurants to add to my favorites list. Yes there were a few that I didn't care for but that is ok. I am not even close to eating at all of the restaurants, but one of these days I hope to.

Yay! More people with the same mission...

I agree that individual experiences may vary based on many, many different factors and many times you don't know what the underlying factors are that contribute to the excellence or detriment of each diner's experience...

It's fun to have the boards to get a clue and to prioritize what restaurants would best suit your vacation plans...and to be steered in the best direction as far as what to order, etc.

I just feel bad when people go into situations with low expectations and feeling like they haven't gotten a good ADR because some restaurants get so much bad press...

I guess I just want to encourage everyone...like PPs have said...most times, even if you wouldn't want to go back, you weren't horrified that you went in the first place.;)

Dh and I have agreed we would at least eat at each of the restaurants in the World showcase. So far we have concured San Angel Inn (Mexico), Marrakesh (Moroko),Nine Dragons (China),L' Originale Alfredo di Roma Ristorante (Italy),Biergarten(Germany). I am really looking forward to trying Rose and Crown and Le Cellier but everytime I have tried to make res they are booked. We also always try to have something different in the other parks as well ( I used to love Rainforest Cafe but when their prices went up I decided they were not really worth it, though that is my opinion). Oh.. Some of the best restaurants are at the resorts!

So anyhow, no your not alone in your quest :thumbsup2

I've eaten at every restaurant in WDW, both parks and resorts, and even some which are no longer around. Also pretty much every one at DL, and most at DLRP. (yes, I visit a Disney park almost every month, and yes I do eat well ;) )

I don't read menus much in advance; we usually just call on the day and find out what has an ADR available. My favourites tend to change, but I have a group of 'old standbys' which are tasty to me and often available. (For instance, I just booked a trip for next weekend and made ADRs at two of my favourite places, DURING free dining, with only a week advance notice)

Things get hyped here - people read and think that they MUST eat somewhere in order to have the 'best' vacation experience. But tastes are so different, and menus change, so I feel that is just setting oneself up for disappointment.

Disney is the only vacation I can think of where people plan and obsess about food so far in advance.

My dh and I are working our way up to being able to say we have eaten at every TS! it is actually a goal of my husbands:rotfl: (mine is to stay at every mod and deluxe!;) )

So far we are still missing:

Whispering canyon
Yachtsman steakhouse
Yachtsman galley
olivia's
trail ends buffteria
plaza restaurant
Biergarten
akerkush
Hollywood and Vine
garden grill
luau at poly
maya grill
teppnayaki
raglan road- dtd
Bongo's- dtd
portobello yacht club- dtd

I agree I think people are so hard on Disney restaurants just because all this planning and investigation goes into it and then the expectations are so high. don't get me wrong we have had some bad meals in disney- sometimes in places that get rave reviews, but if consider how many people go in and out of these places i think the track record is pretty good imo!

I enjoy eating at WDW while there on vacation. It's all part of the experience with the theming etc. as well as convenience.

That said I haven't found any restaurant on WDW property that was really comparable to what I could find off sight. WDW prices are high, most restaurants are very loud (family atmosphere) and food while good I'd rank about average at a high price.

I guess what I am saying is that while staying on property I enjoy the convenience and theming. We will be eating entirely on property on our next upcoming visit. But if I lived in the area and wanted to go out for a nice dinner I most likely would not go to WDW restaurants. There are better choice with better food at better prices outside WDW.

On our last trip we were on the DDP. Our typical TS bill for dinner was over $100 for the two of us. I can't think of a single restaurant where I felt it was worth the bill amount compared to what can be found off sight. However, on the DDP is was EXCELLENT!! Worth every penny and we had a fine time at a reasonable price.

I think I am working on reaching that goal, but the problem is I like some so much that I want to go back over and over. I have 9 ADRs for my upcoming trip and 5 are new. I also think each place deserves a second chance. I did not like Ohana on my first go round but after a second try it has become one of the restaurants I eat at on every trip.

We have found that most "signature" restaurants do not live up to their unbelievable rave reviews. We have developed a little group of favorites, but then are working our way down the list of those we haven't tried yet. One dilemma, the more you try, the more favorites you have, and, I guess then, the longer you have to stay to try new ones!!! We have tried "almost" all of the "raved" about restuarants and only like one, Artist Point. Our other favorites are all ones most people don't try.

We try to include a couple new restaurants on every trip but it's not always easy since DM & I have such different tastes. It doesn't really make sense for us to book California Grill, for example, when the only thing I would eat there is the kids' mac&cheese. (I wouldn't mind, but DM would feel weird if she was the only one ordering a "real" meal).

In October we'll finally try Boma (had ADRs for this one on both trips & canceled both) and Cape May. In December we should be trying San Angel and Grand Floridian Café.

I'm always looking for new places to try but there aren't many with a menu that'd satisfy us both.

Except for Teppanyaki in Japan, Shutters, Kona (for dinner) and Capt. Jacks, I've done every TS restaurant at WDW at least once. Of course, that's since 1975.
Except for Fultons, most all are worth doing at least once.

One of my goals in life is to try every Disney restaurant.

The only problem with that is now I have so many must-dos each trip, that it's hard to fit in new ones.

When I went in 2005 I ate at fifteen different restaurants, all of which were new to me except for one. In 2006 I ate at ninteen different restaurants, of which only eight were new for me. Next month I'm eating at ten different restaurants, only two are new for me.

Each trip I want to eat at so many favorites, that fitting in new restaurants is more and more difficult.

But no, I won't not eat at a restaurant based on bad reviews, though I'm more likely to try a restaurant quicker if I've read several good reviews on it. Does that make sense?

I just told my DF I'll need to start going to Disney just to eat soon!

Count us in. We actually have had to extend our vacations because we have so many favs we have to do and we also have to try new rest each trip. This up coming trip we are trying...
Coral Reef (Ann. Dinner)
WCC (lunch)
'Ohanas (breakfast)
Cape May Cafe (dinner)
Princess Storybook Breakfast
CRT (lunch have always done breakfast)

We try new restaurants every trip. We are also trying to eat at all of them

So far:

Chef Mickey
California Grill
Artist Point
Whispering Canyon Cafe
'Ohana
Kona Cafe
1900 Park Fair
Boatwright's
Cape May Cafe
ESPN Zone
Yachtsman Steakhouse
Jiko
Crystal Palace
Cinderella's Royal Table
Le Cellier
Sci - Fi Dine In
Mama Melrose
Brown Derby
50's Prime Time Cafe

There might be more but it is really hard to think of them on the spot.

We keep trying new places, and so far haven't regretted any. Of 22 ADRs or planned ADRs (in the case of the AK restaurants that aren't taking them yet), 17 are at places we haven't ever tried, 2 are breakfasts at places where we've only had dinner, and 2 are places I've been but DH & the kids haven't. There's only one - Sci-Fi - that the whole family has tried before, and even though it seems to be the most negatively reviewed Disney restaurant, we enjoy it so much that it is our one and only must-do for every trip.

There are a few Disney restaurants that don't appeal to me based on menu or style. One that comes to mind is Hollywood & Vine - I don't particularly care for buffets and my kids are too old to be into Playhouse Disney characters, so there's not much appeal there. But those rare exceptions aside, I would like to try all of the Disney TS once, and after our next trip, I think listing the ones we haven't tried will be shorter than listing the ones we have!

I think you have a wonderful approach and attitude toward Disney dining! You approach it like an adventure! :thumbsup2 I agree that any restaurant can have an off night, whether they are acclaimed or not. I also agree that the theming in all of the WDW is so fun, and to me that is half of the experience, with the actual food and service accounting for the remaining half. I have never been disuaded to try a restaurant based on the reports of others. I am sometimes reluctant to try some restaurants because I am not used to or don't prefer the style or flavors of the food. For example, German food is not a huge favorite, so I have never really had an interest in eating at Biergarten. (I bet the atmosphere is really cool though).
