Hi,
I think we have decided to stay at Tropical Palm Fun suites near Old Town
for our Spring 2002 trip to WDW. I wanted to know if this area of 192 was safe.
I had read some negative reviews on the Days inn Near Old Town and someone posted they didnt feel safe in the hotel.I wanted to know if it was just that Days Inn that was in question of if the whole area was iffy. We are a family of four and a nice, safe clean area is very important. Any info. would be great. Thanks, Debbie-Indiana

I have friends that stayed at the Tropical Palms and liked it there very much. They stated that it was very peaceful and nature-like after a day at the parks. They never mentioned not feeling safe there. Also, I have stayed at the Days Suites in question and have not had a bad experience there at all. I have on numerous occasions walked from my hotel room to Old Town and back late at night without problems. I have not walked it alone, because I am a small-town girl who is chicken in the big city (anything over 10,000!) by myself at night.
Hope that helps.

There's usually a minimum of 1-2 Osceola County Deputies patrolling the streets of Old Town on foot and on the Cruise nights(Fri. and Sat) a few more, not to mention the ones that routinely drive around the area( including most of the hotels) in their cars.

Thanks for the replies. All the travel brochures promise so much
it is so nice to be able to ask people who have actually been to
the area to get the real scoop.
Thanks again,Debbie

We were at TP in May with two kids, 4 and 7 years, and never felt un-safe. We walked over to Old Town a couple times after dark. No problem. The area isn't posh and the Days Inn isn't a 4 star hotel though. How you'll feel about it depends what you're used to, I guess. But we never saw anything questionable, found anything to make us question the safety of the area, or heard of anything unpleasant happening around there.

The Days Inn has, unfortunately, got a bit of a reputation as being a bit run down and poor in comparison to much of the development around it. Tropical Palms should be an ideal place to stay hereabouts and I haven't heard any negative reports safety-wise. This whole stretch of the 192 should also benefit from the completion this summer of the BeautiVacation project, which has added sidewalks, drinking fountains, paths and some pleasant landscaping all along this route. The construction for the last 2-3 years has been a pain in the rear end, but it should be worth it now. Hope you like it!

As long as you don't try to cross 192 on foot, you should be perfectly safe. :)

Hi Simon,

Can you tell me when the roadworks on the 192 will be finished??? We are going Sept 13th.

Thanks,

Lisag

Lisag, the construction is scheduled to finish "this summer" according to the highways agency. I guess that could mean next week or next month. There are a couple of good ways round it - by using Osceola Parkway or Black Lake Rd/Sherberth Rd - just in case, but you should, in theory, benefit from the new, improved 192 without all the roadworks in September :D
