Are your teens/young adult kids still wanting to go?

Our adult children still love going. Before we leave our remaining teenage daughter begs to be left home while we go. Of course we don't let that happen. She comes along kicking, screaming and complaining all the way. Once we're there she has a complete personality change -- for the better. :goodvibes

That is my husband. He will tell everyone what a waste of money it is and how he hates it and oh yeah, he only bought DVC to shut me up. :confused3 But then we get down there and he is a different person.

Luckily my kids still enjoy going but we have changed how we go. We don't go every year so we do get a chance to do other things in between. They also go off by themselves a lot more.

Truthfully I think they like going with us so much is because they eat a lot better. LOL. My son went on his senior trip and was mad because he didn't get to eat at TS restaurants.

My 17 yr old HS Senior is bringing nine friends with him (and the two of us) in early June. Some of the kids haven't been to WDW since they were little, little kids and are really getting anxious to go. I bought them all 2011 Mickey Graduation ears to wear right after graduation - to get a group photo. We've got an OKW GV for seven nights.

Should be a fun time.

This is awesome I would to have my DD's bring friends all new perspective. Where do you live, or should I say how do you get to wdw by flying? Are the friends paying for their own flight and park hopper, food? How do you decide who has to sleep on the couch? I am more curious of the logistics because after telling my DD maybe they could each have a friend I figured it out and it would still cost the kids almost 550.00 between airfare and a 7 day park hopper this does not include food or spending money. I would love to do it just not sure kids friends can swing it!

Any feed back would be appreciated.

Raised my kids on disney. They are high school and college aged now, and while the oldest (ds 23) isn't as thrilled with wdw, he still enjoys it. He's coming with us in August and when I was discussing whether or not to get an AP or just a hopper for him, he said "oh I'll definitely want to go back. Please get the AP". See.....dh and I knew we raised them "right" ! ;)

We're driving and spending the night in a hotel on the way down and on the way back. I've earned a bunch of Hilton Honors points, so two rooms of the six total will be free. We're bringing our minivan and SUV, so it will be a bit tight, but the kids are excited. We're borrowing a luggage carrier to put on top of the minivan and the SUV will have the entire back end free. Told the kids to pack light - swim suits, shorts, shirts - and we'll have the washer and dryer for anyone who wants clean clothes.

Several of the parents are offering food for the trip, but I'm stopping at Publix to get breakfast stuff and lunch stuff so they can eat in the villa. If we need more, we'll just get it.

So ultimately, the kids are paying for their tickets (Undercover Tourist), their CS food, any TS food they want other than Chef Mickey's, shopping money. Most of these kids did not go on the Senior trip to Europe, so this is a lot cheaper than that trip.

We have more girls than boys, so the girls get the upstairs (assuming we get a two story GV at OKW and not the one story handicap accessible one) and the boys get the living room.

These kids have been very close - some for thirteen years since kindergarten, some for four years through HS - and are all heading in different directions come August. I'm just glad we have the GV to offer them the time to get together.

I have read about your trip in other posts and I think this is just absolutely awesome!! It is going be an incredible trip and they will remember it for the rest of their lives! Memories for life. :goodvibes What a wonderful and generous thing to do. I am so excited for all of you for this vacation and hope you will let us all know how it was when you get back.

My "kids" now 22 and 23 went through a phase in their mid-teens where they were too cool for Disney. Thankfully it only lasted a year or so. They are more excited than us, if that is possible, for our next planned trip for Christmas. It is much easier when the parks are not so crowded due to not having to go during times that worked with their school schedules. College schedules are much more flexible.

My sons are 17, 19 and 21 and they all still love Disney. That's why I bought DVC, I knew we would be using are points primarily for stays at WDW. My SIL and BIL live in South Carolina so we plan on staying at Hilton Head one of these days. Aulani will just be icing on the cake!:)

I don't think the issue is lack of desire to go to Disney as a teen, it is lack of time. Both my teenage boys still ask when are we going back, we just don't have the time to fit in a visit since they both play school sports and belong to teams outside of school that play all year long. Maybe absence from Disney will keep them interested until they have children of their own.

I've enjoyed reading all of these posts so much! I have a different perspective- I'm the "grown up" kid :thumbsup2 My parents have been taking my sister (30) and I (27) to DW since 1991. They originally toured DVC in 1999, but did not join because we (the kids) were "getting older" and they did not know how much longer we would want to be coming along. Well, here we are, 12 years later, and I'm a Dis Nut more than ever! The parents eventually bought into DVC in 2007, when they realized the "phase" probably was not going to pass for any of us. My husband and I have since added on our own points as well. My sister went through a few years where she wasn't as interested, but she has since had a son of her own- and she and her husband enjoy taking him along as well. We almost all go together, and I love how our family of 4 has turned into a larger family of 7. I can't wait to have kids of my own one day, and introduce them to my love that is Disney! I'm sure every family is different, but although our interests have changed over the years, Disney is one of the things that has always remained important to us. Maybe it's all of the amazing memories we have together. I can't imagine throwing all that away. Disney is my happy place. :lovestruc And for all you Dad's out there, who think your daughters will get married and you will be freed of your vacation providing responsibilities...if you're like our family, that wedding will just mean you'll be adding one more to your list of kids to take to Disney World!

I hope you have BOODLES AND BOODLES of children and get to enjoy many trips! Thanks for sharing your story. Being the Dad I do understand;)...Shawnpirate:

My teens,17 and 19, love Disney, and I'm sure they always will (we've taken them since they were babies), but for a few years now, they would rather go other places (if given an option). My husband and I now prefer to go without them and do a family vacation elsewhere!
