Are your teens/young adult kids still wanting to go?

We have moved into that stage now where we have older teens and no little ones left in our family. Our teens still want to go to Disney, but they play it cool. I do miss the days of having little ones who get so excited about seeing the characters, etc. Do your teens/young adults still like to go with you or do you on the family trip to Disney? princess:

Luckily, my children still enjoy Disney. My older two are college age and were not able to go last year and will not be going this year and a bit bummed. They are hoping we can somehow find a way for them to go with friends during spring break next year.

My youngest, DD15 is just as excited and in love with Disney as I am so it makes it nice to have someone to share it with.

Of course, my kids have gone almsot every year since they were little and I am Disney obsessed so that helps them as well!!

Our son is 18 and apparently the yearly Disney trips from the time he was 5 on successfully brainwashed him into being a full-fledged Disney maniac. :thumbsup2 He's mentioned many times how much he's looking forward to our trip this October, and has been bugging us to go down over Christmas again sometime in the next couple of years. I'm thinking maybe 2013 after the MK renovations are complete. :)

I know what the OP means about not having the fun of little ones with you, though. We've gotten around that the last couple of trips by having our niece and nephew (who live near WDW) stay over with us at our resort and go to the parks. And this year, hopefully, we'll have them and also my best friend's kids in our travel group -- it will be their first trip, so that should be lots of fun! :thumbsup2

Our 20 DD LOVES everything Disney - music, movies, TV shows, parks. She thinks of WDW has her second home. Because she is in college and can't take off during her brother's spring break she is not going this year. Last year she went with a friend and we let them use some points to stay at WDW so she went then. No trip for her this year :sad2: Now are 2 boys are not as obsessed as their sister, but they both enjoy going, have their favorite things to do. They are 14 and 16.

I am so glad that you asked this question.

My oldest son has been difficult on some of our latest trip and has not shown much interest. However next month he gets to march with his school band in MK and will be staying with the band at an All Star resort while we sat at BWV. I thought that we would be excited to stay with his friends but instead he really want to stay with the family at BWV. This tells me that he enjoys our family time and still enjoys DVC.

DD is 19 and a freshman in college :sad1: she has been going since she was 8 months old. This past fall we went to a convention in Orlando ... stayed at OKW and Vero. She couldn't believe we would go without her  but of course we did...it wasn't quite the same without her, but we survived :rotfl: she is really looking forward to our next trip.

Our kids are 12 and 10. The 12 year old would rather go to Sea World and Universal for the better coasters, but is still happy to go to WDW. The 10 year old is getting there. In a few more years, I expect attitudes to change even more.

My 17 yr old HS Senior is bringing nine friends with him (and the two of us) in early June. Some of the kids haven't been to WDW since they were little, little kids and are really getting anxious to go. I bought them all 2011 Mickey Graduation ears to wear right after graduation - to get a group photo. We've got an OKW GV for seven nights.

Should be a fun time.

our kids are in the early 30's now , 1 married ,1 not and 1 GS 2yrs old. They still like going and we didn't start DVC till 2002. Family trip in OCT every yr with 4/5/6 studios. this yr 1 2bedroom and 3 studios and 1 RV site:goodvibes

As my son would say, "You rock!" DS is a freshman, and that would be an awesome graduation present! What a great idea!

As for the OP's question, my kids are 15 and 8. Both still really enjoy WDW, but if given the choice, would go to the beach any day of the week. That's why we make sure to sprinkle in some water park days in at Disney, and tie our WDW trip into a beach trip as well. DS has taken a friend the last two trips (this summer will be his 3rd), and he really likes it when he has someone there his own age to do things with. Win-win for all of us! ;)

We have triplet daughters who are 23 and all still love going to Disney. We bought DVC last year and everyone is looking forward to going with us when they can. I guess the change is that they are working and have other things going on, so getting a big family trip there is difficult. We're trying to plan a Grand Villa at VGC in 2013! Maybe then everyone can come!

We've pretty well come full circle. We have 2 DDs who are now 25 and 29 and who have been going since they were infants. Our younger DD has never lost interest, although her favorite activities have changed as her age did. Our older DD went through the "too cool" phase and chose not to come with us for a few years. She now has her own DS (2 1/2) and a newborn DD. We've taken her and DGS three times in the last year, and she's an enthusiastic participant again. (Of course, I knew this would happen. That's why we joined DVC! ;) )

Yes and some recent trips have been with their friends and cousins along. We have encouraged our eldest 2 who are in college to go independently with friends but so far they have been coming along with us....wow! maybe we actually might be kinda cool parents(?), DH & I always thought we never had a prayer ;-) Even if it is just our kids we let them determine where they want to go & what time they want to spend, sometimes DH & I are together with them at parks & other times not and sometimes they take our youngest along with them so she can have time away from mom & dad too. We all have dinner together and everyone has fun talking about their adventures that day. Youngest DD is 14 and shows no signs of interest waning, in fact she has recently become very interested in tours offered at WDW so that is something new we've begun for our trips.

:)

just got back from spring break. DD 22, her best friend, and DS 29 was able to join us as well. I don't know who had the best time, and the two young women stood in line for an hour to get pix with Flynn and Rapunzel. Disney magic hasn't worn off for any in our bunch. WDW brings out the kid in all of us, in the best possible way.:goodvibes

I know what you mean about these character photos. My son has some great ones with Alice in Wonderland that I took last summer. She was a real cutie.

Yup they still come! I have 2 DD's in college and both took 2 days off from college (spoke with professors 1st) and joined us for the long Presidents day weekend. Each had their lap tops, work to do at night but said it was worth it. They fly back while we stayed with youngest DD 15 since she has Feb break. Love ME to get them back to airport! Next Feb. we are considering letting youngest DD bring a friend since we are staying 11 nights and her sisters will only be there maybe 5 nights. All have plans to use our points with friends at some point.

When DH told DS 16 we were going in April, he looked like the little boy on the commercial. He enjoys Disney as much as I do.

I LOVE to hear that!!! :lovestruc

Our DD (23) and DS (16) have never lost the magic --- and always seem to want to be in WDW. At random points during the day, one or the other will say "did you know the wait time for TSM is 80 minutes!"..... It's a part of them -- hopefully forever.

Our DD got married there in Decemebr -- there was no other place for the celebration to be held.

My 21 year old still gets excited about going, but is so busy with so many other things that disney trips are not always the priority. :confused3

My 20 year old would go at any time, and would like to work there. He has special needs, so while we think that would be a great place for him to work we haven't figured out how to deal with him being alone over 1000 miles away from us.

My 17 year old won't admit how much he enjoys it and likes to act as if it is a big imposition for him to go. I think part of it is being the youngest and wanting to act too cool to like Disney for the older boys. I think another part of it is that the oldest is so bossy that when we go he takes over and pretty much tells the other boys where to go and what to do. While the youngest complains about this, I think he also likes not having to make any decisions, in august we are going, but 21 isn't, so 17 is acting uninterested. :rolleyes1
