DS's middle school is crawling with kids wearing dozens of shaped elastic bands on their arms. These kids are regular horsetraders when it comes to getting a "rare" one.

Anyone else's school too?

(In the interest of full disclosure, I AM wearing the "J" and the star that DS gave me!)

Not popular at my highschool, but I did get a couple packs for Christmas. I am afraid they will brake if I wear them too often so I wear them sparingly lol.

My son was given 2 from someone at school and 3 from his cousin. He wore them for a while until they broke and hasn't mentioned them again. He did enjoy them while he had them and they were cute. However, he's in kindergarten so I'm sure he's moved on to the next best thing. Gotta love their attention span!

They popped up all of a sudden at my school, and I didn't even know what they were called.

I'm not into them.

In the late summer/early fall the craze here was the animal shaped elastic bracelets! Now it is letter shapes?

Haven't seen of those yet! :confused3

Yup! DD11 came home the other day with a fish-shaped one on. Her friend had given it to her, and she wanted to get some online so she'd have them to trade. We got 3 packs on Amazon- pets, ocean animals, and basic shapes. She will be able to trade with all her little friends now.

My sister said that are HUGE in Birmingham, AL where she lives, but my kids (12 and 10) had never even heard of them. When DSis offered to send them some, my girls were like, "uh, no thanks."

I saw some on Amazon a couple months ago, thought they were cute, so bought some for my grade school grands after asking their parents. They are thrilled to wear around house, but I don't think they are popluar at school yet. :goodvibes

I googled them and showed them to my kids (ages 10 & 13). They both said they never heard of them, no one wore them at their schools, and were not interested in getting any.

I'd like the letter bandz for my classroom. I think it would be a fun way for kids to practice their spelling words. I do have a question:

Do the bandz maintain their shape when worn? Doesn't seem like they would, but I'm clueless.

Yep...they're all the rage at my kids' elementary school.

Yes, they do maintain their shape as my daughter got several sets from friends for Christmas. (I had never heard of them until then). And they even have them for college teams--we found the Auburn ones (and the U of AL) in Birmingham!

They are huge here. My kids love them and I have spent way to much money buying these crazy things. I am actually wearing a castle one right now. The kids got them and thought of me & Disney. :rotfl2:

I keep saying that I am finished buying them and then they comeout with something else. It's crazy but I have well over 100.00 in them. :scared1:

They do maintain their shapes. Eventually, they get brittle and snap if the kids keep them on through showering, bathing, handwashing, etc., but I've seen some last for several weeks at least.

In our town, they have them at Learning Express toystores, and also there is a site call sillybandz.com that has a link to an internet seller. The prices online vs. in store seem to be the same, not counting any S&H. I've seen dinosaurs, pets, zoo animals, western theme, letters, princess, sea animals, Christmas and general shapes, plus rumors that there will be a "rockband" pack soon.

Who'da thunk kids would go crazy for elastic bands, although it does bring back memories of wearing o-rings on arm when I was in middle school!

I have never seen those before but they are pretty cute. I guess it is this generation's version of the jelly bracelettes I wore in the 80s:lmao: If I can find a seller who ships to Germany I think I will get some for Easter egg fillers :dance3:

Now I must go Google these Sillybandz.

I just googled them.... but when are worn they look like normal :confused3

This is what I was thinking - so they only have those shapes when they arent being worn?

I live just outside Birmingham, AL, and the trend is starting to wear off a little bit here, especially since Christmas. However, they were HUGE late summer/ early fall when school started. My kids have tons of them...so many they couldn't wear them on their wrists so they attached them to these carabiner clip things, hook it onto their backpacks, and trade them. They got so big they had to ban the kids from trading them in school...I know some teachers that confiscated tons of those things. It's one trend I'm not sad to see go...those darn things were hard to get when they were hot.

Never heard of them. dd13 hasn't either.:confused3 They look pretty cool though. Maybe a good Easter basket item!
