Are you the only planner in the family?

DH and I do the planning together and we love it!:thumbsup2
We love our lazy Saturday mornings figuring out our next trip.

I am the only WDW planner for all of my family, my dad and in-laws included. I enjoy planning so usually this is fine with me. I only hate it when I get no feedback with the planning part and than get complaints from my family when we are on vacation about what I planned.

When you mentioned telling your family you were going to book the restaurants, it reminded me of the time I mentioned some places we could eat on our next trip (I'm the planner in the family). My DH's response was, "So, you want me to tell you what I MIGHT want to eat 6 MONTHS from now?" Well, that pretty much summed up how far I got getting feedback from him.....:upsidedow He enjoys our trips but doesn't want to plan or pack anything...he just gets on the plane. ;)

We were cured of the "how do I know where I want to eat 6 months from now" when on our 1st trip. It was Thanksgiving week and we saw a guy throw a hissy fit at Liberty Tree Tavern because they weren't taking walk ups. And this was Monday of T-giving week at lunch. :scared1:

And we've seen plenty of people sitting outside in the bar area of Raglan Road T-giving night eating dinner because they didn't make ADR's complaining that "no one told them you have to make dining reservation."

So I've won the battle of ADR's. :woohoo:

My DH started off as the over planner and somewhere along the way we swapped roles. I usually keep track of the DVC points, what we're going to be using 2 or 3 years from now, banking/borrowing, etc. I run different scenarios some years if we stayed at X-resort or Y-resort, split stays, etc. Then I let everyone chime in on what they think we should do. Once it's booked everyone gets in on the planning though.

We usually take one Disney trip per year so it doesn't seem too overwhelming to obsess about it once a year. Next year I'm trying to get AKV CL (can't book until Sept) followed by a Disney cruise (booked last week - 1st time!!)...the following year 2013 would love  to visit Aulani - can't wait to read reviews about it!!

I'm the planner. We travel A LOT, not just Disney. I really enjoy the planning and research but, just once, I would love to have my husband and son NOT look at me when we've reached a destination and say, "OK, what are we going to do and what do we need to know about [where ever we are]?"

I used to be the only planning but in recent years, even more so since joining DVC, DH has really taken an active role in planning. I usually am the one making the room and dining reservations but only after we've discussed them together and DH has made some spreadsheets.

Now when we take my mom and brother, which is usually at least once a year, getting input from them is like pulling teeth.

Happy to say I am the only planner. DH just wants to know what time he has to be ready to get on the plane! He does not even pack his suitcase! He did pack once when we went to MD and he forgot pjs, underwear and toothbrush so my packing is alot safer! As long as we are at WDW he doesn't care.

Went with DD and DIL a couple of years ago and asked them if they would like to go to LeCellier our treat. They did not undertstand that you have to make reservations. We made the reservations and one hour before they decided they wanted to go to DHS instead of eating. There was a newleywed couple looking for walk up reservations and we gave them our reservation.

Going with friends this year at Halloween and they said "you know Disney alot better than us so whatever is fine with us. We don't like being tied to reservations but know that certain places you do need them. Planned to MNSSHP/dinner, Haunted Carriage ride/dinner and a character breakfast.

Part of the fun is the anticipation of looking forward to the trip and planning so I don't mind at all.:yay:

I am the only planner in our family for any vacation. DH is so bad that he gets annoyed if I ask his advice, say about ADR's. He will say "That is 6 months away". He understands the need, he just doesn't get into the planning spirit. I even pack for him. He just gets on the plane when I tell him to :rotfl2:
That said, I love planning, I love the DIS and I love how they enjoy the vacation I have planned.

Yep, I'm the only planner. DH gives input on where he'd like to stay and where he wants to eat but that's all. DS7 got to choose the resort this trip (back home to BCV & Stormalong Bay). DS3 gets the Disney Junior character dining. Me? I get to plan it all. From making reservations to finding the cheapest airfare & car rental, it's all me. If I left it up to DH, we'd end up paying a fortune for everything as he doesn't want to shop around. Just book it & he's done. Same way with Christmas shopping. :)

I'm the planner, because I'm the one who likes being in the middle of everything! I like knowing what's going on, and I am an organizational nut. I told my DH we were going to MNSSHP; he had no clue what that was, but is willing to give me the reins. :lmao:

I am the only planner for our trips (DH and DD), which is wonderful because then I am happy. They always say they are just along for the ride.

I am the only one who seems to care about what we're going to do, that is until we are there, then it's like "well why didn't you?". If it were up to her, she would make multiple ADRs all day so that we could pick and choose when and where we wanted to eat on that day, however, I would never do that as that is one of the things that contributes to the lack of availability of ADRs.

We generally choose the resorts together, and I force the issue so that we know at least 18 months out when our next Disney trip will take place. When it comes to ADRs I am always the one who ends up choosing where we eat. I rarely get input directly when we are planning trips, however I occasionally get "hints" when she reads her Disney email. Like "V&A's is opening a new room with only four tables, we should eat there." It's when I hear things like that when I try to nail it down, like not on the trip that we already have ADRs made, but how about the next one?

We have a trip coming up next May and I have everything for the first half of the trip penciled in, but I'm having a hard time figuring out the last three days, especially since we are bringing a friend for her first trip.

I'm not sure if I set the precedent for this on our very first trip almost 15 years ago. I created a schedule with flow charts and we had back up plans for which parks we wanted to visit complete with ADRs. I don't do that now, but I think it's that original trip that inspired faith in me that now I'm in charge of everything!

We have a group of seven of us that go each year and I am the only planner. Luckly my family is easy going so that like what I plan so never a problem.

Yes, it's my karma. A main strength of mine on the stregth finder assessment is "arranger" - even drives me nuts but can't help myself :lmao:

My daughter (almost 10) now plans some with me. At least she gets excited with me :lmao:

My partner doesn't add much but then doesn't complain much either. I would like a bit more input but it's been this way for 12 years. It's not going to change is it?

no i am not the only planner..i have my elders who plans everything...
