do to the things that may happen with Iraq in the future.

This whole mess really makes me nervous. I even find myself doing stupid stuff like hiding money. Maybe it's just me and I am paranoid.

Why would we want to do that????

I'm quite aware of what is going on, but so far I'm not doing anything differently.

For a while after the terrorist attacks, I kept a change of clothes and a toothbrush in my car and bought a self-feeder for my cats in case they evacuated this area.... we have a Nuke plant and we're within the evacuation area. I wasn't afraid anythign would happen, more that there would be a threat to another nuke (or this one) and they evacuated as a precaution.

Although stockpiling money would have long-term benefits even without a war, but I'm content to plan my vacation and pour money into that for a while!

Ummmm, we're building a new house -- what do you think our answer is? :D

No, I'm not hiding money, never thought of that. Interesting thought, though. Why do you do it, in case the banks fail?

No, but I do understand where you are coming from. I have my dds crayon bank that I just feel I don't want to cash in to put in the bank because it makes me feel secure. It is been saving our change for 10yrs.

We've been saving more money since September 11, 2001 - but due more to a really lousy economy and job insecurity than fear of war.

I'd rather have my money federally insured than under my mattress. If the US government falls and is unable to replace funds lost in the banking system, cash on hand will be worthless anyhow. If you're truly worried, you'd be better off stockpiling food and ammunition to fight off your hungry neighbors.

saving money due to sagging economy and another mouth to feed on the way in July
we built a new house & moved in last August so this really dipped into our savings
I heard Suze Orman say the other day the 4-6 months of bill money saved isn't enough in this economy that you should have more like 8 months. jeez and I just thought I was starting to catch up.

dh and i are pouring all our money right now into paying off our debt as fast as we can.

i don't understand why you'd hide money.

We're not doing anything out of the ordinary, just trying to make ends meet as usual.:D

We are doing the same as always, just cutting back where we can, But that is so we can pay the bills not save.

We are actually pouring more of our money in the bank, saving for when DH retires in two years.

:bounce::wave::bounce:

The library is beginning to make cutbacks with more coming in July. So far it isnt significant (for me anyways) but July could see me going to 21/25 hrs from 34 (was 35 until yesterday)
DH & I have recently begun decluttering/cleaning/organizing/decorating the house. Hasnt been thoroughly done in 9yrs. This will involve painting the downstairs, septic (hopefully wont need to be repaired).
Just bought new bifocals to the tune of $450 and DH will be needing a dental plate ($600ish Im hoping not more)
When/if Im laid off in July at least some of these bills will be behind us.
And yes our 2 long weekend summer getaways and a 6night vaca are remaining. Along with our Nov cruise - I will get on that ship, I will get on that ship --

After 15 years of paying tutions and weddings. We were finally starting to save when my DH was in an auto accident. He was forced to retire. That was seven years ago. Three surgeries later he is at 60% healthy. He returned to work this past May. It's not easy but he is determined to work. Life on a disability is not an easy life. It almost borders poverty.

We own our home, do not have car payments. He still gets his pension so we put 100% of what he earns working away.

Seven years is a lot of lost wages, I know we will never be able to make up what he has lost, but we are trying to save as much as we can.

No, we are building a new house too. Actually, curtailing spending because of impending war is how the economy gets into such a mess when things like 9/11 happen. That is why I think it is important to go about life like you always do.

Paying bills and saving like crazy - but not due to the possibility of war.. After wiping out nearly all of my DH's retirement fund due to medical expenses, I'm extremely worried about finances.. If people only knew how quickly healthcare costs can wipe out ones entire life savings I think they would be a LOT more frugal.. I never thought I would see that day, but here it is.. :(

Save as much as you possibly can.. You'll be glad you did later on if something unexpected happens..

Save money yes. hide Money no. But then again I've been trying to do this for a long time anyways.

I'm not doing anything I didn't do before, we save what we can but we also live life , we don't know if we are going to be here tomorrow for all we know.
