One of the Moms at DD's PreSchool asked my Mom and I today if we were sisters. She couldn't believe my Mom has 3 Grandchildren.

I hope I look like Avery's Sister at 47. ;)

What a nice compliment for your Mom. :)

My mother was often mistaken for my sister. She was fairly young when she had me (early 20's), plus she looked a lot younger. She had that good Italian skin that never ages a day, that sadly I did not inherit. :(

When I went on a vacation in my 20's with my brother and SIL, and their kids, they thought brother and SIL were my Mom and Dad and I was their oldest child, it was sooooo funny. :teeth:

I've had that happen with my brother and SIL several times.

I bet your mom was very flattered. :teeth:

And then there's the time DH picked 4yo DD up at preschool, and the teacher said, "Here come's Amy's Grandpa!"

Ooops!

We are easily old enough to be her (young) grandparents, but still...

Even worse was when my mom and I went to my new SIL's bridal shower, and her dad thought I was my brother's mother. My brother is 2 years older than me! In his defense, someone had pointed to where my mom and I were standing and said, "John's mom is over there." By the time SIL's dad got over to that corner, my mom had wandered off and I was there alone.

Barb, someone said that about me the other day -- she thought I was my kid's grandmother. I'm pretty sure she said it to be spiteful, though. At least I hope so, I can't imagine actually saying such a thing to someone on accident. :p At 40, I suppose I *am* old enough to be a grandmother to my 9 and 6 year old, if I was Loretta Lynn, that is. :p

I called them Mom and Dad the rest of the vacation. :teeth:

I get mistaken for my girls sister all the time. It used to really annoy them when they were in high school, but not any more. They figure they may look young when they get my age, so they won't complain. I'll be a grandma in December, and my husband keeps telling me that I'll be mistaken for her mom instead of grandma. Sometimes it's annoying to look younger than you are, I want people to know I'm the Nana!!!

My step mom is only 15 years older than I am. When I was younger people asked us all the time if we were sisters. It hasn't happened for awhile, but it did happen just a couple weeks ago. What's funny is I looke exactly like my dad, and we can be standing next to each other and people still can think that.

People also think that my stepmom is my children's mother. My step mom lets people think that too. She doesn't correct them. In fact, sometimes I think she believes that she is their mother, but that is a different story.

I went to the dr the other day & the nurse asked me if I had a brother named Danny. I said, nope but I do have a father in law named Danny!

Not sure if FIL should be flattered or I should be insulted. LOL

Not to downplay your annoyance, but I gotta tell you, its better than the other way around. :p

I love it when people think dd is my sister and dh is our dad. He's not so thrilled with it, though.

Now, here's the sad part. Today, my student employee was talking with another student about WWII. She asked him what started the war and he told her that Archduke Franz Ferdinand was shot. Well, I couldn't keep my mouth shut and said, "Nope, that was WWOne not Two." Then I explained about Germany & Poland and then explained about Japanese internment camps, etc. (I watch the History channel a lot.) Well, this kid was getting ready to leave and he said, "You should ask this lady more about WWII to study for the test. She seems to remember it pretty well."

WHAT???? My GRANDFATHER fought in WWII, my mom was a child!

I guess it's all relative how young I look!

Kelli, John is still amazed to this day at how young you look. I have to agree with him! I can definatly see where they will think you are the baby's mom or at least his Aunt!

I'm sure your mom was flattered.

This happens to my mom quite a bit. In fact, at our wedding she was wearing a champagne colored gown (I picked it out for her--she looked amazing) and a few of our distant cousins actually stood up as she was being ushered down the aisle! My grandma said they were whispering "It's the bride!"

That really made me laugh, but I know how good it made her feel.

Thanks, Beth. <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008_ZSXXXXXX42US' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_6_5.gif' border=0></a>

Snoopy, it's true, I'd rather be mistaken for younger than older any day!!!

your mom is only 47???

wow my mom was 47 when I was 14

LOL of course Im the youngest by a lot of years.

Anyway how cool for your mom I bet it made her day!!

Not my mom, but people used to be surprised that my ex-mil had a grandchild, since she looks really young. When dd was an infant, people automatically assumed I was a teen mother. I was 22 at the time, but I looked really young (the bad complexion didn't help matters  ) Some people would stop in their tracks, give me a dirty look, then look at dd sympathetically. That happened to me at the mall once. I thought that was very rude. Sorry for going a little OT. ;)

Yes, being thought younger than you are can be irritating when you are young but it's nice as you get older. Recently someone asked my sister if I was her daughter. :) She's only 4 years older than me and I certainly don't think she looks that much older. However, I do have a 3 year old DD plus few noticable gray hairs and my sister's hair is now mostly gray (takes after our Mother's side in that way). Of course, I teased her about it... since I knew she found it amusing as well.

My Mom is only 49 and looks great for her age. She barely has any greys. She doesn't get mistaken for my sister, though. We look nothing alike!

My Aunt is 12yrs older than I am (42) and she always gets mistaken for my sister. She loves it ;)

OK I was wrong. She is 49 not 47. DUH! She had me when she was 22.

She definitely took it as a compliment. :)
