I guess if we elect a republican, we may just end up fighting a war on practically every continent. Are we really ready to open up another war when we are in Iraq and Afghanistan???

We even admit things are going bad in Afghanistan..."US Joint Chiefs Chairman Admiral Michael Mullen has warned time was running out to defeat an intensifying insurgency in Afghanistan and said he was "not convinced we're winning" in the country."

Apparently Sarah Palin is set for more.....

If they are so willing to involve us in all of these conflicts, how on earth will they be able to do it without reinstating the draft.

So are you ready??????

Well, what do you expect from John "Bomb, bomb, bomb..bomb, bomb Iran" McCain anyway?

You are aware that we are members of little group called NATO - aren't you?

Sarah Palin was VERY clear in her answer

"that is the agreement when you are a NATO ally" - it is the ONLY legitimate answer she could give...

do you disagree with this statement she made?
"For Russia to have exerted such pressure in terms of invading a smaller Democratic country, unprovoked, is unacceptable," she said, referring to Moscow's five-day war with Georgia last month."

As part of our NATO agreement we are bound by this:
"In accordance with the Treaty, the fundamental role of NATO is to safeguard the freedom and security of its member countries by political and military means. NATO is playing an increasingly important role in crisis management and peacekeeping."

Sarah Palin was saying that we will have to watch Russia and use the political, economic and god forbid military means possible to stop Russia from invading other nations. If we don't - make no mistake of it - they will will not stop in Georgia next time.

I like to post the following post (which I wrote a month or two ago) into political threads. Not only does it ‘run up’ my post count (which in this small Mickey world enhances credibility) but it seems to irritate those who believe that the post was directed specifically towards them (“You’re so vain, I bet you think this song is about you”). To wit:

I am looking forward to the day the new President of the United States takes his oath of office and then addresses the nation. No doubt there are some posters here who hope and pray, and perhaps even expect, said President to say during his speech:

“And finally, I would like to thank the dozens of anonymous people who went onto websites like Disney Community Board and, at no personal risk to themselves, started literally hundreds of threads pointing out my opponent’s shortcomings, whether real or imagined.

These selfless, no-name people literally forsook family, friends and their jobs (but not the paycheck, of course) in order to spend hundreds if not thousands of hours surfing the Internet looking for any posting or news item that hinted at negativity towards my opponent.

Once found, and ignoring the cramping in their wrist signifying early onset of carpal tunnel syndrome, these anonymous posters would quickly open a new, repetitive thread on Disboard, deftly ‘paste’ the link to said article, and then invite one and all to click on said link and so see for themselves how unworthy, how untrustworthy and how creepy my opponent literally was.

I would also like to thank those people who, in pursuit of their dream of somehow mattering to an infinitesimal degree, would spend hours criticizing those who did not believe as they did and fearlessly cast aspersion upon those who articulated a contrary opinion or viewpoint.

It is to these people, known but to God and to the Disney moderators, who helped speed me to victory by changing perhaps half-a-dozen votes to my humble cause. I welcome all votes, whether they come from well-informed voters who make up their own mind or from anonymous posters on anonymous websites.

To these few people, I give my thanks.”

(great applause)

It really does take a lot of posts to get those totals up;) ....don't worry, keep posting this a few hundred more times and you'll be there....and without getting carpal tunnel syndrome.:thumbsup2

One little problem... Georgia isn't a member of NATO yet. Just a bit of cart before the horse I would say.

Sarah Palin was not clear on her answer about Nato which is why Charlie was getting frustrated with her and had to ask her 3 or 4 different times and all he wanted was a simple yes or no answer and she could not give him one, except to say that America will do what we need to do.

I DO NOT WANT TO GO TO WAR WITH RUSSIA.

So far all I have heard Mccain and Palin speak of is War. Nothing else. That is what we are going to get if they are elected. So more countries will dislike us. Great;)

I am concerned about military action against Russia. It is very likely that Georgia will be admitted into NATO.
Just another reason to not elect warmongers!

This taken from the NATO website: http://www.nato.int/issues/nato-georgia/index.html

NATO offered Georgia an Intensified Dialogue on Georgia’s membership aspirations in September 2006. The Intensified Dialogue gives Georgia access to a more intense political exchange with NATO on the standards necessary to achieve membership and the way in which Georgia’s reforms can be tailored to achieve those standards. At their Summit in Bucharest in April 2008, NATO leaders agreed that Georgia would become a member of the Alliance, and launched a period of intensive engagement with Georgia to address questions still outstanding pertaining to Georgia’s Membership Action Plan (MAP) application. Future decisions on when Georgia will move to the MAP stage and eventually to membership will be based on Georgia’s performance in implementing key reforms laid out in the IPAP. As agreed at the Bucharest Summit, the application to join MAP will be reviewed by Allied foreign ministers in December 2008.

so you have no issues with your guy telling us he will invade an allied country??

That is something we can all agree on. Yet I understand that there may be circumstances that would make war inevitable.

You know, I always have a bit of a problem with this kind of stuff...a bigger country invading a smaller country...and yes, this includes the USA going into Iraq, before ya'll jump all over me. ;)

There's a part of me that says "it's really not our problem". But then there's the other part of me that says "If we do nothing this time, when will it become our problem?". And then there's the other part of me that says "Do we let a ruthless dictator run roughshod over people just because the good people of the country are not strong enough in numbers to overcome him?".

I in no way claim to be a foreign policy expert, but here's what I think, in a very simplistic explanation.

I think that when a country is small and weak, it is up to the bigger guys to protect it, not invade it. I think when a country is being run by a harsh dictator, it is up to the other larger countries to protect that country's good people by trying to depose said harsh dictator. That isn't to say that the world should be made up of hundreds of "USAs", but the world should be made up of countries whose people have basic human rights and are allowed to live their lives, practice their religion and develop their culture generally as they see fit within reason without being under the control of or living in fear of extremist factions who are looking to force people to live a way of life which they would not choose. I think while we have been worrying about the Islamic terrorists these last few years, Russia has been quietly reversing its culture from that of the 80's & 90's when the Cold War "ended" and reverting back to the whole super Communist "Mother Russia" thing, and I hope that someone in the CIA, FBI, Homeland Security or whomever has been paying attention to them.

I think the countries who have Communist, Fascist or extremist "leanings" are envious of the USA...they are envious of our way of life, our freedom. I think Islamic terrorists issue with us has less to do with " they need oil & we have oil", "they support Israel" and more to do with "they have a way of life that we don't like and they must be annihilated". Our basic identity as Americans annoys them & they want us gone.

Russia....there have been signs along the way that Russia was not as "anti-Cold War" as they wanted everyone to believe for the past 20 years or so, since the Reagan/Gorbachev years. Putin runs a dictatorship while trying to pretend he runs a pseudo-democracy.

And you know, I'm not sure how you fight them. With regard to the Islamic terrorist, I am not sure how you fight people who are not afraid to blow themselves up. I'm not sure if diplomatic sanctions will faze them...do you think people who are able to strap explosives to a mentally ******** person and blow them up in the town square are going to care if they don't get their delivery of goods from all the other countries of the world who would "sanction" them? I just don't think so. I think they'd have no problem letting their people die in the streets of starvation rather than backing down so they could get food deliveries. Look at China & Tianemen Square back in the day...the government had no problem running people over with tanks. Look at the recent weather disasters in Burma (or Myanmar or whatever the heck they call themselves this week)...the government wouldn't allow much foreign help after that devasatating storm...people literally died in the streets.

So, what do we do? Like I said, I don't know, and I don't think anyone else does either.

Disney Doll,

I respect your post very much and I do agree with you on several of your points.

We are the greatest country in the world, we have Freedom and we have rights.

Many other smaller countries and some big do not have the same liberties or freedoms that we do.

But does that mean we have to put our beliefs on those countries? I would not want to be force fed something that I don't beleive in. Other countries which are much older than us have their own way of life and that is what makes them different and their own country. Some have dictators that do horrendous things to their civilians. But, if we keep going to "war" instead of trying to keep the peace but "Help" the other countries what is going to happen to our great nation?

I am all for help, but if that help means another war then I am 1000% against it. So while I respect and like a majority of your points, there are a few that I disagree with ;) but thats okay.

I still like you:flower3:

Why should she have to answer yes or no? He was backing her into a corner to say yes or no when in fact he himself has no idea what world politics may be in the future. We don't even know what is going on behind closed doors or what each country has planned or details of each situation. The correct answer was that America will do what we need to do depending on the facts at hand. A president has to have all options open to him/her and sorry if you didn't feel that was an answer. I'm sure that if Obama were given the same question and answered the same way Gibson wouldn't have grilled him so hard for a yes or no.

Sorry, I still don't get it. Is Palin really fit to be President? Or is it just that Republicans are enjoying that Palin drives liberals crazy?

But all that Palin could say was what she was told to say. She didn't really sit and think about what to answer. I mean can she think on her feet or has she been in seclusion and told if you are asked XYZ questions this is the only answer to give.

That is what is sounded like to me, she brought nothing "new" to the table. It was more of the same past 4 years.

Mccain's camp is now eating their words because all they have been saying about Obama is that he doesn't have experience and he wasn't in the military well - you (republicans) chose Palin. She has less experience than Obama. She also wasn't in the Military. She is not ready to be VP or President, if she was then she would have been running for President as well...dontcha think?

Like I said, there's a lot of "I don't know" in my posts. Certainly war would not be my choice. But neither would speaking Russian or being Muslim be my choice, and I can't help but think that if we don't take a "nip it in the bud" approach, that we will someday be involved in another world war. Or at least we will be until someone drops the big bomb and solves the problem entirely.:guilty:

One thing I DO know, this is a very serious issue and one that should not reduced to political fodder to help one or the other side win an election and then be left languishing until something happens. Whichever gentleman wins in November will need to be prepared on Day 1, because I firmly believe that there will be some sort of attack shortly after the new President takes office...a "test" if you will, to see what he will do & how he will respond. That first response is going to drive our national security for the next 4 years. I don't envy the new President.
