Are you for or against the war

What is your opinion?

  • I am in favor of declaring war immediately

It makes me horribly sad to see our troops go overseas knowing that some of them will not come home, but I think that this war is necessary. I feel Saddam must be removed from power to prevent future attacks on America. I salute our brave troops! I hate war too, but I think in this case it must be done.

No one "wants" war. I truely don't think Pres. Bush "wants" war.
I believe he knows much more about this threat than we do and believes our country is in grave danger. Maybe Saddam has already sold some of his weapons to Al Qaeda. I try to remember what it was like after 9/11. We were all very effected by that .Everyone was really scared.Imagine that happening again but on a larger scale. So, I'm hoping and praying a lot, that they can somehow come to an agreement about disarming and the threat to our country is gone.. If not,I want and expect the President to do his job and protect the USA!!!

Did anyone hear about Britain's training exercises??
I heard that they were doing some training or something when all of a sudden all these Iraqi soldiers came running towards them and surrendered....They had to send them away because the war didn't start yet....Or is this a new urban legend???

I'm very surprised to see how many people think that disarming Saddam is going to stop future attacks on the US. I think that this is exactly the opposite of what is going to happen. I feel that the US is going to suffer from an increase in terrorist activity because of their actions. All that is happening here is that the US is becoming more and more disliked and support will rise against them.

Not in 'favor of war' per se, but am in favor of doing what is necessary to protect the United States, and the world, from future terrorist and roque state acts. We saw appeasement and its result with the Chamberlain/Hitler Munich Pact, signed also by France, in '38.

I agree with Damo that we will have more terrorist acts as a result of the war.
We will have shattered the U.N., NATO, the European alliance and the US budget.
Things will go from bad to worse.

I also am not "for" war but some things need to be done - we should have finished this 12 years ago, then maybe 9/11 would have never happened.

Edited to add - I am "for" all our servicemen and women - no matter what you feel about the war please give them your prayers and support.

then maybe 9/11 would have never happened.

i really don't understand the logical leaps people are taking here. how are iraq and 9/11 connected? i think it's pretty bold (and very untrue) that if saddam wasn't in iraq 9/11 wouldn't have happened.

A terrorist is like a bully - they usually pick on the kid who they figure won't put up to much of a fight. Our record in the Middle-East has been to back off before anything is settled and "diplomatic" responces to the bombings of our embassies and people.

when was the last time iraq was behind a terrorist attack on embassies or anything else?

Ramzi Yousef, the mastermind of the February 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center, had strong links to Iraq as well as to bin Laden's terrorist network. He flew to the United States using an Iraqi passport on a trip that began in Iraq. He appears to have acquired a false identity with the help of Iraqi authorities, who doctored his personal file in Kuwait during the 1990-1991 Iraqi occupation. Another suspect in the 1993 bombing, Abdul Yasin, later returned to Iraq and is believed to be living in Baghdad. Former CIA Director James Woolsey has called for a renewed investigation of the 1993 bombing, which the Clinton Administration handled as a criminal conspiracy rather than as state-sponsored terrorism.

ok, so you believe that we should go depose saddam b/c of the 1993 wtc bombing.

i'm still trying to figure out how deposing saddam would have stopped 9/11.

Don't think taking out Saddam in 91 would have prevented 9/11 but I feel that if we don't take him out now we will have another 9/11 on our hands.

"I agree with Damo that we will have more terrorist acts as a result of the war"

And if we don't go to war we won't have ANYMORE attacks?? We are going to be attacked again (or there will be attempts) regardless of IF we go into Iraq or not.

I dont feel that I'm qualified to say war is right or wrong, I think we should believe in our government to make that decision and support whatever it is.

I feel so bad for the people under Sadam's control. If they tried to express their opinions like we are, they would be murdered on the spot. :( We're quite lucky to be able to discuss how we feel!

As a father, war scares me because of what it might mean to my kids and because I hate to think of what could happen to kids living near where the fighting will take place. I'm afraid this could spin into a larger war involving N.Korea, China, other Arab nations; in other words; WWIII.

With most political issues, I create an imaginary scenario involving neighbors and individuals instead of political parties, organizations, nations, etc... This is very simplified, but with Iraq, I compare them to a neighbor who I've witnessed beating their kids, damaging other neighbors property and one who has a history of violence against other neighbors. What am I to do if I know that I'm strong enough force to this neighbor to behave better using physical strength? I think the appropriate response is to call the police. But, what if the police have made it clear that they are not interested in getting involved? Am I obligated to get involved for the sake of the neighbor's children, my other neighbors and because this bully could become a threat to me some day? Or, should I mind my own business?

I wish we could look into the future and see:

-would more Iraqis be harmed as a result of a U.S.-led war or by another 5, 10, 20 years of Saddam in power?

-will N.Korea see this as an opportunity to "get away with" some type of mischief?

-assuming this war results Saddam being deposed, how long will the U.S. be on the hook financially and militarily for propping up Iraq?

I suppose there are a hundred other questions I haven't thought of.

I voted in favor of taking action, but I respect those of you that disagree with me, and I'm thankful we all have the right to express our opinions. Hearing all of you really does make me think!

Is undecided a ok answer?

I'm not really sure of what I think yet but I'm leaning towards more time.I do feel that things will happen when they happen but blame my inner journalism major

As much as I hate the idea of war, I think the time is drawing near. I still don't know we waited so long when we went, what 4 years (?) when Saddam wouldn't even allow inspectors in his country? Why did we not do something then? If we had, we wouldn't have to discuss this.

I still hope if iut comes to war, Saddam won;t use any weapons of mass destruction so he can "prove" he doesn't have any. Am I wishful thinking?

I would like to see Iraq liberated, so yes, I am for it.
