Are you constantly solicited because of your DVC??

We closed on our BWV resale in early April. Since then, I constantly receive unwanted solicitations from time share companies asking if I want to sell, buy, rent out unused weeks etc. In the past two days I have received three phone calls!! I am getting pretty tired of all of this!! Any suggestions on how to end these calls! They seem to be coming from a variety of companies.
Thanks!!!

There is a national "do not call list". We live in a state that has one so I never registered on the national list but I'd suggest you "google" it and sign up.

Sounds like another (minor) advantage to buying from Disney. It's been almost a year since we bought at SSR, and haven't received one call, one letter or one email about selling it.

I am not sure if it is a national list or not, but my husband and I are on a No-Call list. The few times that I have received calls I simply tell the person we are on the list and please remove us from their system. I have never heard from a single one twice.

We've been members since 1995 and have never received a solicitation.

I believe marketers check Orange County public records for contact information. when we purchased from DVD, our contact information was kept out of the public records. This may not have been done with your resale.

This is not unique to DVC, it's actually very common throughout the timeshare world. Companies mine from the deeds, sale and rentals listings, etc. They are simply looking for an upfront fee and will promise the world to get it including sales and rentals prices above retail. It's a scam, don't bite at all.

What timeshare company did you go through?

I bought a re-sale DVD that closed in April, and I have not gotten any such calls. I did not use The Timeshare Store.

Speaking of unwanted calls, I got a call from someone doing an election poll.
I told them
"If all other things were equal, I would vote for the candidate for which I had received the least (or no) phone soliciations."

Not 1 call or mailing since buying in December 03 (resale). We do have call intercept which eliminates most if not all telemarkiters.

How was this possible? Aren't all of our deeds a matter of public record in Orange County?

As far as the OP, I've never gotten one call about DVC...only other "timeshares" that give the generic "You've won a free trip, you just have to go to our presentation..." type junk calls.

I just got a call last night from MARRIOTT VACATION CLUB. Great deals to Orlando blah blah blah. I said sorry I get a better deal through Disney and the laady said, yeah they are tough to beat".

We got a lot of mailings from RCI Stroman (or something like that) asking if we were interested in selling our DVC...

A new mailing would head our way every other month.

3 months ago I called the toll free number provided for selling my DVC and told them they were wasting their money sending me stuff because we are NOT selling and if by some slim chance we did sell we have another timeshare broker we are planning to use.

Nothing in the mail from them so far...... I'll keep ya posted.

I bought all my contracts direct from Disney and am listed in the Orange County public records.

Did you request they be kept out?

I've seen deeds, satisfactions, online in public records before that have the contact information (address, primarily) marked out with a black marker - so that you can't see anything but the person's name.

I don't think the poster was implying that the entire deed was suppressed - just that their personal information wasn't disclosed.

I get the occasional junk mail, but I never a phone call solicitation, even before no-call listing....

We get some Marriot things in the mail from time to time but they may be from frequent flyer programs (?)

I too would like to know how you managed this.

I bought my original contract in 1997 and have never received a phone call/mailings from other companies asking about me selling. Then again, I have moved 4 times since then so that may be helping me. . . :p

I do receive mailings from people mining the local records where I own property and since I have to keep that address up to date for annual taxes they do find me but only by mail. I don't receive too many of them though as I have my dad's address listed now showing it's to be received C/O him so that may be slowing down some of the junk mail!

I would also suggest signing up on the do not call list. I have only had 2 calls, both asking for someone else at my number. I did have 1 call on my cell phone and that was registered so when I told the lady this she apologized and hung up. Not another since!!

Your problems not with DVC but your resale company.
We bought through Disney, and have done 2 add on's.
Not 1 single call or piece of mail. Sounds like the resale company is selling their lists.
Hope you get the calls stopped.

Not likely that the resale companies are selling their lists.

Why would a timeshare broker want to steer business to a competitor?

It is quite simple for a broker to get some basic demographics on you, just go to this web site:

http://www.occompt.com/2002/disclaimer.html

We get mail about every 2 months soliciting us to sell, and got dozens of 407 area code calls before the DNC list went into effect.

I suspect that the brokers are targeting specific properties and focusing their efforts on trying to entice those owners into selling.

No, we rarely get anything like that in the mail, and we are on both the national and state do not call lists. I had all our numbers placed on it, but looks like I need to do the same to the cell number now.

....... but I wouldn't know for sure because everytime I answer a phone and hear " Could I please speak to a Mr Kenneth....... " I just hang up. I'm sure I must have pissed off my Dr's office a few times doing that but so far they haven't tried performing a rectal exam to get even so I guess they don't stay mad too long.
