Are you an early riser at Disney?

Are you an early riser at Disney

  • Yes - I get up early anyways and it's the best time to get to the parks

  • I'm not usually, but make a point to at WDW to get there for rope drop

  • Are you kidding me, it's a vacation I get up when I feel like it

We are RD people, but we're also up at at 7:20 am every day. Our last trip we were all in bed early every night too. This trip the kids are 2 years older so I'm hoping to do a 7:30 Fantasmic one night and 9 pm Illuminations another night. We won't make it to a 10 pm Wishes though.

I get up when I feel like it on vacation. Sometimes, I will make a breakfast ADR for 8:30-9 am . That's "early" for me.:lmao:

We are usually rope drop/commando people, but our next trip will include a 2 year old, so things may change a bit. Our sleeping habits will have to adjust to his timetable.

I would like to make it to RD some time but I don't know if it will ever happen. I planned on doing it last trip but didn't. Maybe I'll try harder this year.

I normally wake up at 5:30 but DW is a vacation. I work pretty much every day. I don't think I've had more than two days off in a row since the last DW trip in 2012. It's usually a day off, maybe two, every couple of months.

It's just hard to make myself get up earlier than 8:00 or so when I don't have to go in to work.

I need an "other" category too....the heat during the time of our visit, often makes all the difference! We used to be early risers - even on EMH days, no matter what! It was the best way to get the most out of the day, and we closed the park (even EMH nights), almost always! This was back when I was much younger of course, and in those days, we only were ever able to go during spring break, in the middle of, or later March, when it's just the perfect temperature, pretty much at all times.

In later years, we've often only had a chance to go during very hot weather. The big difference for me now is that in very hot weather, I have to take a break somewhere in the middle of the day....often I'll have a good long power nap, and that makes getting up early for rope drop, and staying out late, a lot more manageable. (Not only the heat affects this....since cancer 13 years ago, my stamina just hasn't returned fully - so I don't actually make it to rope drop as often as I want to, no matter what the temperature.)

my idea of crack of dawn is 10 AM. drink coffee, and get to park about 11:30.
yet, I eat dinner late and will be up until after midnight. I would rather be a later person out of the place than opening it up.

and , I discovered, there are loads of folks like me. :goodvibes

Last trip, my husband and I got up early the first few days, because our family members said they were going to do it too. They took so long eating, getting ready, etc. That we often found ourselves sitting for over an hour waiting for them to finish. :rotfl2: So we just gave up.

Next trip, we're getting up early, staying out late, and NOT traveling in large groups.

:rotfl: Someone who understands me! My alarm goes off at 6 and I start to feel human around noon. Getting to sleep on the other hand ..... going to bed at sunrise would be my ideal world! Always been a nocturnal creature. Except at Disney ;)

Hee! I am totally with you. I have just accepted the fact that I will never get used to early mornings. So glad it's Saturday night so I don't have to worry about waking up early tomorrow!

I am similar. I am up till 3 AM and a night owl yet I am also a morning person up and ready to go by 6AM. My friends hate it when we go away on our bike trips as I am up and waking everyone else up before 7AM to get their butts going. I hop out of bed and have a smile on my face and full of energy most people do not like that early in the AM lol.

Oooh, you are just like my mother-in-law! That little woman is full of energy and barely sleeps two-three hours at night before she's ready to hop up and go again.

Not me! I better get AT LEAST six hours and preferably eight or I am a grouchy monster throughout the day. I wish I didn't feel like I need so much sleep just to function. It doesn't seem to matter how much I get as far as waking up goes-- it's always agony.

This is one of the many reasons I have decided having kids is not for me.

Our family is definitely early risers at Disney. We love to get pre-park opening ADRs and go to RD. My favorite thing to do while at Disney is to sit out on the balcony of our resort, while the rest of the family are fast asleep, and watch the sunrise and also watch all the workers get the pool and the resort ready for the day.

We get up early to fish and golf and also to open AK. Otherwise we are at the parks until early am anyway-so I guess that counts. :)

Gotta love peak weeks.

LOL my kids are all becoming like me especially my oldest daughter. Their mom doesn't like it much as she prefers to sleep in. So after they spend a week at my place they do the same at her place she hates it lol.

I'm an early riser when I'm on vacation at Disney. I like to get to breakfast early and get out and about. At home, I'm a late sleeper.

At Disney, I definitely am! Even on the days we schedule sleep ins Im up by 8! Lol!

I've always wanted to get up early, and do rope drop, but my partner is sooooooo not an early riser, especially on vacation. I usually end up getting ready and sitting at the beach watching the sun rise and the ducks swim before he gets up and showered. The last trip I told him I wanted to see this morning show at the MK and I was going to go, but in the end I feel guilty leaving him behind that I don't go. This year though, I'm going, I've decided I won't let his inability to get up ruin my vacation! He can hop on a bus and meet me there!

Always wake pretty early in Disney unless I do a 2am emh at MK. Love mornings sitting on balcony at BLT listening to the boat horns as they cross the water or watching the animals come to life as the sun rises at AKL.

Sleep is for the weak! ;)

Seriously, I'm NOT a morning person--except when on vacation. Then it's hard to stay asleep. I want to do something fun.

If I'm vacationing at WDW, I usually get up around 6, take a morning swim and soak in the hot tub, then grab some breakfast and get everybody up and moving. We're out the door about 45-60 minutes before rope drop.
