Do you believe in creationism rather than evolution? I just wondered how common this belief is.

I am not judging you either way & I respect all beliefs-I had just never heard of this concept until recently.

I voted no because I don't believe in creation as in the biblical sense, but I do believe there had to be some point at which we were created by something other than a god and then evolved from there.

Yes, but I tend not to believe in seven 24 hour days. A day with God can be 1000 years and 1000 years as a day.

I do believe in a literal Adam and Eve.

Thank you for your input-I hadn't thought of that.

Also, to all that do believe in creationism-is it true that people who are pro-creationism do not believe dinosaurs existed at all?

I've only met one christian in real life who believed that...and I know a lot of christians. ;)

I believe that God helped to create the very complex human body. I think it was a mixture.

I also do believe that the dinosaurs existed. How could you deny that with all of the fossils?

No. I find creation myths fascinating and sometimes beautiful. But like most myths, they are stories people devised to answer the "unknown".

Thank you for all of your input. I'm just trying to understand this belief. I completely understand those who believe that God created humans, I was just confused on how people could not believe that dinosaurs existed and I wondered why that thought this. I'm starting to understand what creationism is now & the dinosaurs part seems like the extreme side of the belief-is this correct?

I'm not sure that I totally buy into evolution, but I DO believe Earth was created over a long period of time (dinosaurs etc). I just believe that God had a hand in whatever happened. So I'm a mix and that wasn't an option.

Well. I think maybe a combination of things happened. I'm Jewish and I believe that G-d created the earth and all creatures. However, that doens't mean I think they were created exactly as they are today. I definately think it's a possibility that humans were created but started as australopithecenes and evolved from there. I don't take the earth's age literally from the Torah, it's a metaphor. I believe in a combination of faith and science, if that makes any sense :)

Im an atheist, so no, I don't. That said, I don't really have a problem as long as it is just a personal belief and nobody tries to pass it off as science or teach it in schools.

Like freckles and boo said, I believe creation myths, and all myths (including religions) were created in the attempt to explain what they didn't know.

I believe is creationism. I do believe that God gave creatures the ability to adapt to their surroundings though. Example, if you go from the east coast to the west coast you wont feel the heat at all, but your body adapts to the weather by thinning your blood.

And the thing about the days is true too, a day is not defined in the Bible. It could be 23 seconds, 24 hours, 69 minutes or 19 years.

btw, dinosaurs are in the Bible. There is a verse that even mentions a fire breathing creature. Though that could easily be symbolism. I've NEVER met a Christian that didnt believe in Dinosaurs. Couldn't turtles be considered a dinosaur as well as a Kimono Dragon?

No, not at all.

What I want to know is, if we are going to have to teach creationism ("intelligent design" :lmao: ) in school, whose creation myths should we teach? The Navajo have some interesting beliefs, as do Hopi, the Hindus, the Zoroastrians, the Mormons, the Scientologists and the Maori, to name just a few. I think this could take up a considerable part of one's school career.

I believe both actually. When Cain went out and found a wife I believe either

1. Apes had evolved either by themselves or thru breeding with humans.

2. Adam and Eve had many children, hundreds maybe thousands of years had passed and Cain married a 'relative'.

I would not mind it being taught as a general theory in a short segment of the class, mentioning the many different beliefs. It wouldn't have to go into great detail of all of the beliefs, just short overview.

Some creationists I've met who believe in seven literal 24 hour days believe that dinosaurs existed when the earth was dark, sort of before creation started, some believe that dinosaurs existed with humans at some point pointing to scriptures in the Bible where Laviathan (sp?) is mentioned. Some like me, don't believe in literal 24 hour days have no problems with dinosaurs existing, and that one person that I mentioned earlier believes the bones were placed here (by whom?) to deceive us. I would definitely say that's a fringe view.

What class would you have it taught in? I can see it being ok if there was a world religion class, like most schools have. Just not in science.
