Are you a competitive person? Why/why not?

Yes. My dad always taught us that "second is first in a line of losers." Shockingly, the ensuing perfectionism that arose from that mindset has been both a blessing and a curse throughout life. Fortunately for me, it has mostly been a blessing.

Right there with you. I hate losing/not winning. If I'm going to do something I'm going all-in on it and making sure I'm good at it, whether it be work, golf, bowling, trivia, lifting/exercise, guitar, you name it.

For example, I've never been in a bowling league, I might bowl once or twice a year, tops. But back in high school my friends and I went often enough that I decided to get my own bowling ball and got it custom fit for whenever I do go bowling so I can make sure I don't get stuck with a random crappy house ball. I've gotten really good with it over the years lol.

No, not really, except for trivia and other board games. I won't let that go if I get an answer wrong. I do not like losing trivia.
I didn't ever play sports, not in school, not socially, etc. Still don't.
I do think I was too timid to take chances, worried about failing.
I was one of those students who did want to make good grades in school, but that wasn't for competition, just for self -satisfaction/approval from others, I guess.
My older sibling was many years older, so no real sibling rivalry at all.
No need to compete at work. It's government work, with very few opportunities for competition. I've also reached a point in life where I just don't care enough about anything competitive. Except trivia....

No, some people take these things too far so it becomes very ugly to me.

Often, people press to be the one who gets to be right, whether or not they are actually correct has very little to do with things.

Was in a very competitive career for almost 50 years, I've gotten it out of my system. No competition, you win, you can have it.:)

Never been super competitive in things like sports. I did play on teams, have been a fan of teams, but was never crushed by a loss or if my team lost. (What can I say, I grew up in Cleveland, used to losses!) Had a job in a research lab which was not a competitive position either. Socially, I like to fly under the radar on possessions, cars, clothes, etc. But mentally, school work, grades, trivia - yes, definitely.

I worked in a very competitive business but almost every boss I ever had felt it was better to be second and correct, than first and be wrong.

Over the years I have found those who feel like everything in life is some kind of 'competition' are annoying to be around. They always have to believe they are 'winning' and therefore everyone else is 'losing'. Where I work there are some people that feel like the more they can get away with, ignore company policies/rules, find ways to 'game' the system, somehow makes them a 'winner'. They tend to get a reputation as a goof off and no one wants to have anything to do with them.

I am struggling with this now. My coworker and supervisor at work have started interrupting me halfway through my statements to tell me I'm wrong even though I usually am not wrong. Which they don't realize because they didn't let me finish my statement. Compounded by the fact that my boss readily admits she doesn't think well on her feet so she is telling me I'm wrong when in reality I'm just 3 steps ahead of her in the thought process.

It's getting so hard to deal with that I'm considering asking to transfer departments.
