Are We Right?

Top 5 based on what???? Food? or atmosphere? I'll assume its based on atmosphere and NOT food because no way in heck do any of those places have the best food.

This was the title of the news letter: Top 5 Restaurants at Walt Disney World Resort as chosen by Our UK Facebook fans - no further category information just then went into the top 5 with a picture and information about each of the picks.

I doubt any of these made the list due to spectacular food but rather "where vacationers from the UK had the most fun with their families." Nothing wrong with that. :)

Now, if someone really thinks they had their best Disney meal at Chef Mickey's based on food alone, well, then we need to talk. :lmao:

Think I'd have to agree with it @Pixie Dust ✨ as I have those on my list but I'm going for the experience rather than the food.

I would like to go to the Flying Fish but my son has some development and communication problems and can have melt downs at places then we need to leave ASAP.

So as it's just the 3 of us on this trip would be a waste especially if he didn't like it (When we're back in 2018 we're going with the grandparents as well, so I'm hoping to get a date night at flying fish followed by Trader sams)

Actually kinda of worried about the character meals, but tried to book at relatively quiet times and if after the first one there's an issues I'll just cancel the rest of my ADRS.

3 of the top 5 are AYCTE/buffet style - that may also have something to do with the ratings :)

None of my top are on the list :)

So yesterday I got an email for Disney which had the top 5 Disney Restaurants as voted for by UK Facebookers:

5. Chef Mickey
4. The Crystal Palace
3. 'Ohana
2. Rain Forest Cafe (AK)

and at number one was:

Be Our Guest

5. oh dear NO
4. less than my reaction to CM, but I have no need to eat there again
3. never been there, because the foods don't interest me and the reviews the last couple years haven't been very good
2. the ONLY thing I eat there is the pita quesadilla appetizer without the chicken. everything else has meat or tastes atrocious. (HOW do you make a bad veggie burger? only the chefs at RFC know)
1. I like it, but this is the only thing I eat there...potato leek soup (DH prefers the french onion) and the quiche at lunch or the nice salad at dinner.

although I am shocked the Cali Grill isn't on there as that's my favorite.

Now imagine how most of us are feeling that this list has such mediocre choices and no really GOOD choices. I mean, I get the character meal urge, but gosh, have lunch at Tusker House!

Chef Mickeys would not even make my top 10 list...These are my favorites. Sometimes for food and other times for ambiance.:dog2:pixiedust:

1. Le Cellier
2. California Grill
3. Sc-Fi Diner
4. Coral Reef
5. Na Poli Pizzeria

Yeah...I don't agree with the list. After many vacations at WDW over the years with kids we have found that some venues have great food but nothing magical about the experience. An example of that would be The Wave. We've had some really good food there but no WOW factor with the experience (it's a basement). I think Le Cellier is much the same. Good food but no real "experience" to set it apart from a nice restaurant back home (again, a basement restaurant). So, we like a blend of experience and food. Our list would look something like this (no particular order):

Be Our Guest (we love the atmosphere, food is good)
Narcoosee's (food is great, relaxed and we only go during Wishes)
Sanaa (good food, beautiful atmosphere)
(tie between): Citricos (great food, indirect fireworks fireworks/GF Orchestra playing nearby) Artist Point (great food, beautiful lodge)Jiko (great food, beautiful lodge)
Via Napoli (delicious pizza, cool atmosphere/ovens)

So yesterday I got an email for Disney which had the top 5 Disney Restaurants as voted for by UK Facebookers:

5. Chef Mickey I have not eaten there, but there usually seem to be screeching toddlers parading through it. Others on the DIS have described it as a three-year-old's birthday party. If you are sensitive to shrill noises, this would probably be one of your worst choices for ambience. (I've been to many other character meals, and found the others less noisy.) Also I've seen mostly negative reviews for their food.
4. The Crystal Palace I do like this one, but it's not among my top favorites.
3. 'Ohana This was great when I visited in 2014, but the service and food I received there this year disappointed me a lot.
2. Rain Forest Cafe (AK) This chain is also in other places, and I wouldn't waste a WDW meal on a place I could get to elsewhere. Atmosphere is fun, but their food doesn't impress me at all. May be worth it for atmosphere for those who can't easily get to another Rainforest Café location.

and at number one was: Be Our Guest Interesting atmosphere, but I would have preferred cafeteria food over the lunch I had there, and dinner was a bit better but I wasn't crazy about that food, either. From a food-only standpoint this would be among my least-favorite WDW restaurants.

My top five would be:
1. Tusker House
2. Kona Café
3. Skipper Canteen
4. Sci Fi Dine In
5. Captain's Grille

I'm in the camp of "a bad meal at Disney beats a good meal anywhere else", but here are my Top 5:

5. Restaurant Marrakesh
4. Il Mulino
3. Les Chefs de France
2. Citricos
1. Crystal Palace-- not fine dining by any stretch, but the atmosphere, the buffet, and the characters/CMs always make this one a must-do when I'm in MK!

From that list, I've only been to BOG and Chef Mickeys. BOG...the food was amazing! Went for dinner. Absolutely loved it! Chef Mickeys....HORRIBLE. Went for dinner. Food was cold and tasted like it was all frozen and then heated up. Yes, you go for the experience with the characters but at least serve good food. I'm never paying those prices for that food again. Doing Ohana next month and can't wait to try it.

5. Chef Mickey I wouldn't go if you paid my way and paid me on top of that. Maybe this rating is more about how many people they can crush through an hour with the least amount of food on the floor.

4. The Crystal Palace Well we are talking about Winnie the Pooh. Great location, great characters, charming building, average food. Always busy so I imagine this is a "popular" choice but would not call it a Top 5.

3. 'Ohana This would be top 5 for a ravenous carnivore. But for the price, the food is okay, the wait terrible, the service flat-lined and the decor dated. But hey, you can overdose on your protein here.

2. Rain Forest Cafe (AK) LOVE the theme, nice varied menu, service is good, nice option at AK to keep the budget in check while getting served. It's something different and can see where it is popular.

and at number one was:

Be Our Guest Since the above are Table Service I am guessing they mean dinner and I will say .... no. Quick Service during the day, great experience and food for the price at lunch. Breakfast has some value depending on the time. But dinner - no, limited overpriced menu to eat in a quick service venue. It's loud and the ONLY add on is the server takes your order (breakfast and lunch bring it to you) and the Beast.

Got to say with all the dining options at Walt Disney World .............. too bad that is where their top places are to eat.
