Are we nuts to do WDW in August?

Call us crazy too!!!! :Pinkbounc

We'll be there from August 19th to September 1st. Can't wait :woohoo:

Muahahaha... did someone say crazy!!! :rolleyes1 I am Tanya and if going in August makes you crazy than count me in  I'll be crazy any day of the week if it means going to Disney!!!

I'm joining the crazy club!!! We'll be there 8/29 - 9/4 for my son's 6th birthday!!! My parents used to always take me in July and August, and the heat never bothered me. Just take some pool breaks in the afternoon!! Can't beat the Free Dining!!

One more for the CRAZY CLUB! We'll be down there 8/27-9/2 this year & can't wait! Yeah, everyone says it's really hot at the time of year, but the crowds are LOW, LOW, LOW! Have funnnnnn! :cheer2: :cool1:

We will be there also 8/30-9/3...........I have done it in July before..so August should be fine....

We went in August twice; 3rd week each time, in 1997 and 2000. Each yr. it was hot, humid, and rained everyday at 6 p.m. for about 5 min. I thought it was crowded for that time of year. We are going this yr, 2006; in Nov to visit DCM who will be working and going to college there.

We were there last year from August 29-September 4 for our honeymoon, and we survived. My DW does not handle heat well at all, and she didn't complain too much. We'd go to the parks in the morning, head back to our room in the afternoon for a nap, and then back to the parks when it cooled off at night. Just plan accordingly, and you shouldn't have any problems at all.

We have gone every August for the past five years. It is quite manageable as others have reported. We find that the heat forces us to slow down and not do commando raids on the parks. We always stay on-site so we can take that all-important afternoon swim and rest break. I am told that the weather in June and July is just as humid but with more rain?

I have taken the kids out of school to visit WDW in November, January and March, but it seems at least one of us will catch the flu while on vacation during those periods.

I am not expecting the crowds to be low this August with the free dining available but by using fastpass and EMH, we will be fine.

I think if you prepare yourself for the heat, humidity, and possible rain/storms, you will be fine. It's those who have no idea what to expect that have the trouble. We're going August 16-23, and at first I thought I was nuts to even think of going. Now that I have read all about what to expect, I'm confident we will be prepared and will have a terrific time.
Welcome to the "Crazy Club" !!! :cool1:

It will be very hot down there in August, but if you plan your days accordingly, you can avoid the parks in the hottest parts of the day. As many have said, you should be able to go through the parks in a decent amount of time because the crowds will be down. The EMH in the evening will help as well. I have been able to do pretty much everything at MK in the span of a couple hours, because the crowds are very thin. It takes really unique circumstances for Orlando to feel the brunt of a major hurricane. I know Florida has been absolutely pounded the last few years with hurricanes, but typically Orlando has been spared the worst. I was there last year when Hurricane Wilma went through Southern Florida, and despite some wind and rain, WDW was spared. If it remains an issue, maybe you can purchase trip insurance, which I don't believe cost that much. With air travel prices so uncertain, you have a good opportunity to fly down to Florida and back for a somewhat reasonable rate ($200). I would jump on it. I know if I could be down there the end of this August, I would be there with all of the other "nuts". :teeth: I say Go For IT!, let us know how it goes

Yes, you are nuts. but you have alot of company. we've been going the
end of August since 2003.
I always have my mist fan. One thing I've learned is to find the shady areas!

I agree wit MEM. From I have been reading on this and other Boards..we could be in for a rude awaking regarding large crowds. I hope not.

I'm going late august too. Can't wait for the late park hours and slow crowds. Honestly, as far as the heat, I couldn't care less... It doesn't bother me enough to turn down free dining.....

We just signed up for the Crazy Club 8/14-16! Couldn't pass up the free dining, plus our very first WDW visit and my B-day on the 11th, can this summer get any better?
......Is it August yet?!

We are Crazy too! Going 8/26 -9/2 at Movies. First trip. It might be a bit more crowded than usual. Hearing lots of resturants full with ADR's, but who knows. We will go, go slow and work on having fun! :rolleyes1 Now, if the kids don't find out until we get off the plane...!
princess: pirate:

:sunny: HOT! HOT! HOT! :lmao: but much better crowds then our usual visit times of June and July! Both of my big boys were tall enough to ride everything that they wanted to in MK by 4 years old. Can't wait to eat on the free dining plan, eat what we want and to tell the boys that they can have anything and not have to crunch numbers before we order.

Aug 31 thru Sept. 6th here! We live in Ga. so the :sunny: heat and humidity :sunny: as well as the threat of the hurricanes are the same for us here or there- we'd rather be there! We JUST voted in a more balanced school calander and have labor day and the next Tuesday off so we are checking the kids out of school early Thursday afternoon and returning the next Weds.- and YES, we are taking our straight "A" students out of school for 2.5 days- no worries-life's too short- :wizard:
We'll be at POP- there will be a daily parade to the buses-you can't miss us- we'll be the first up in the AM and the last down in the PM- just look for a Mother figure leading the parade that looks like this - , two big boys who look like this- :bounce: , a baby boy who looks like this- :clown: , A Dad who looks like this- pirate: , A Grandma who looks like this- :3dglasses , and finally a Grandpa who looks like this- :smokin:
YUP- the weather is the least of my concerns! :wave2:

Yes, you can call us crazy too! We'll be going to WDW August 22-31. :cool1: We went in Aug 2004, and it wasn't that bad. The crowds were fine. Yes, it will be HOT, but we'll have the mister fan and water bottle.
