We are planning a trip to Universal the first week of August. We have three families and fifteen people with kids aged 7-17. For all of the kids, they have never been and it has been twenty years for us adults. Basically this is all new to all of us. The majority of our party has very little interest in HP. Are we insane to go this summer with the opening of Diagon Alley? We are going to stay on property for two nights so we will have express pass and early access. I am not sure when we will be able to go back and I don't want to go this year and have it be a disaster because of crowds. Thoughts?? Opinions?? Go this year with a good plan or wait until Summer 2015?? Thanks!

I think staying on site (not at Cabana Bay) will make it just fine. Sure it will be busy, but with express it will be very manageable.

If you aren't interested in Parry Hotter then it's probably ok to go yes it will be busy but a lot of people will concentrate on those areas leaving the rest quieter and with express passes all should be ok.

Thanks for the replies! We are planning on two nights at RPH to get three days of unlimited express. We will probably try to do the HP stuff during the early admission if the crowds are at all bearable. How often do they actually close the current HP section of the park due to crowds? Is that something that happens only during the highest peak times (Christmas, etc)? On our first day, we will probably not make it to the parks until noonish. I am concerned the park itself will be closed to capacity or does that not really ever happen?

The parks close due to capacity but I can't honestly remember seeing where they closed during Christmas week this year. Next might be a different story though but the parks rarely close during Spring Break.
