Are upgrades a thing of the past?

We are arriving Saturday and are celebrating our tenth anniversary. We are staying at the Wilderness Lodge where we also had our honeymoon. I have heard that they sometimes give upgrades but wasn't sure how it worked. We got a last minute AP rate (couldn't believe they still had AP's available so last minute). I didn't tell them on booking that it was our Anniversary but plan on calling tomorrow to order a bottle of wine to await us on arrival. (My DH had this done a few years ago when we went to the AKL & I thought I would return the favor). Any one know if we have a chance and how we would go about seeing if we could get an upgrade? Our honeymoon room overlooked a lovely loading dock and it would be great if we could avoid that view. Thanks in advance to all in the know.

I am sure it has to do with what rooms are available for your check in day. It wouldn't hurt to ask when you check in if there are any upgrades views available.

We had 3 rooms book at WL last August, woods view. When I check it, he told me the room numbers and I looked at the map. They were courtyard view! The CM just smiled and handed me my keys. We really enjoyed the view and were actually thankful since Hurricane Charley hit two days later! I was much more comfortable having my room on the inside of the hotel versus facing out!

We got an upgrade to a partial BW view at BWI last year. The standard view we had requested was unavailable so they put us in a preferred view. Granted it wasn't one of the best but it was only about 4 or 5 rooms down from where we had stayed before when we paid for a water view. This happened last Feb.

We have always been upgraded to Savannah at the AKL. Also, we have told Guest Services about any celebrations upon check-in and they have sent champagne (anniversary) and gift bags for DD and DS birthdays!

Our best surprise: My DH and I were having lunch at Teppanyaki. The other six people at our table were CMs from the BWI. We got to talking (I talk to EVERYONE) and told them we were there for our anniversary. As they were leaving, one of the gentlemen came back in and asked where we were staying (SOG). That evening we came in to find a large basket filled with wine, cheese, fruit and an autographed picture/card of Mickey and Minnie and our new friends from the BWI! So very nice!

I think the CMs will try to accomodate you any way they can. Just ask!
