Are tickets only valid from the day you check in ?

Am contemplating booking a room/ticket package thru an airline since I have some miles (not enough for our flight though) and was wondering if my park tickets will only be good once I've checked in for this ressie. I'm doing a split stay starting at SSR, then finishing with 2 nights at POP (I wish I could switch the order but can't). If I book a package for the last 2 nights at POP + our 8 day tickets, will I be able to use the tickets the preceding 6 days, or will they only be good once I check into POP at the end of my trip ? I don't think there's substantial savings booking with the airline vs disney outside of the fact that I can use my miles to offset some of the cost, but any money saved is more to spend .

Have a feeling I know the answer, but thought I'd ask the question anyway. One other thing, if I can't use tickets until I check in, is there any better/cheaper way to buy tickets when renting a ressie other than having the dvc owner add them on ? Will most likely be adding DDP as well since we're staying in a studio.
