Are they serious

Although I agree there is a lot to be desired looking at the kids menu options, I have to say it is pretty typical of any restaraunts kids menu. I see those same options every where we go. my DS7 will do just fine because he loves that stuff. DD9 will hate it. That is why most of our TS reservations are places like O'Hana, Beirgarten, LTT, etc. where she can eat the same thing the adults are eating. If she had a bigger appetite I would consider getting her the adult DP but she could never eat that much. I will probably use her CS for breakfast at the resort and then pay OOP to get her something she likes for lunch.

Boy is it just me or is Disney just damned if they do and damned if they don't. On one hand you have people complaining the kids menu is too small, then you have others that don't like the idea of their 11yrs old having to pay the adult price on the dining plan (pickey eater, eats like a bird, etc.).

Do I think all WDW restaurants have great kids menus "NO", but neither does most restaurants anywhere. My 8yr. old DS loves clams and lobster as well as many other "adult" foods, but I know he is in the minority and I am not going to find these on a childs menu! So if I want to give him what he really wants I will pay the extra $$, get it myself and share, or I let him know he WILL be ordering off the childs menu today END OF STORY! ;)

They really only give a kid the same junk they give at CS.
I believe that's the main reason why the child Dining Plan is less than 1/3 the price of the adult Dining Plan. It is a shame, for those children who would prefer better food, but unfortunately, if my DNs are any indication (four out of four), the vast majority of those under 10 years old prefer "junk".

Why not just buy an appetizer or soup for your child? Or there's always buffets. Or share with them?

The preferred term is "fun food" not "junk". ;)

Liberty Tree Tavern tried to create a healthy, interesting children's menu a few months back and the backlash from parents who were unhappy because their child couldn't have chicken nuggets or grilled cheese was so big and so quick that is changed back almost immediately. Parents one these boards were actually complaining that their children were on vacation and deserved vacation food.

Well said, Cruz Family!!!!:rotfl2:

Folks on a pricey vacation want it ALL - the atmosphere, themed restaurants, great price, more kid options, bigger or smaller portions, sharing, fun but healthy food......:confused3 Whatz a WDW guest to do????????

but then you do have to offer something to compensate for the opposite end of the spectrum. my godson (3yo) is one of those that just loves food. he sees what we are eating and wants to eat that too. He loves salad (if you can believe that), tomatoes, spinach, shrimp, fish, olives, mushrooms. the typical things that most kids HATE, he loves it. I have seen some restaurants offer a more 'mature' tasting entree for children, but usually a slim selection.

Hi everyone! We're going at the end of October with the Dining Plan, and my daughter pretty much the same, she likes better food, for the most part (my hubby's a chef). She was eating salmon eggs when she was 2, lol. And I don't want her to have to eat chicken fingers and mac and cheese the whole time, she won't do it anyway.

So, my question is, what places have better kids menu choices? She'll eat what we're eating no problem, but I'd like to know in advance if possible so she can have her own when we're planning. Can you see the menu's online somewhere?

Thanks!

menus (though subject to change, they will give you an idea) at www.allearsnet.com

Signature places have better options for kids, but if you do a lot of signature dining, you won't do well with the Dining Plan. Buffets aren't restricted by age, but - for a chef's family - the food may be lousy.

What's signature dining? It's been a while since we went to WDW. :confused3

And thanks for the link to the menus, that'll be a huge help!! :teeth:

:stir: For 10 bucks a day at DISNEY WORLD, did you expect to be getting seafood lunches and steak dinners for the kids?

Disney knows that mommy and daddy will buy ANYTHING that junior's heart desires. So they put crap on the kids menus and hope that we fools will spend an extra $30 on the kids while we're there.

I personally don't expect seafood lunches and steak dinners, but why should kids have to settle for cafeteria style food like mac and cheese at almost every place? Particularly if they don't eat that 24/7 anyway? :listen:

She'll eat what I'm having if need be, so she'll eat good no matter what, and that's what's important to me. :cheer2:

I know I have said this before, and maybe there is a good reason why they don't do it, but it seems like a simple solution would be to offer the option of kid-sized portions of the adult menu.

Right on!! I feel the same way as you... kids feeding on mac'n cheese and chicken fingers for "x" days??? My kids will feel sick after a couple of days!! DD-soon-to-be-7 will say "Is there anything else to eat? Why can't I eat like you?" So I know I will be sharing with them and eating those.. chicken fingers as well

Okay, I saw the picture. Now I am really worried. That did look like a kids portion :rotfl2:

And I've read everywhere how big the portions were! Oh well, I'm sure with an appetizer and dessert (which I usually don't get) I'll be plenty full :)

I think as we get closer to the beginning of free dining the portions are getting smaller and smaller.

I'm not sure a Disney restaurant will be able to accomodate you but many restaurants will work with you if you ask for a children's portion, or appetizer portion of an adult entree. My guess most Disney entrees are in either prepared or at least portioned in advance but it can't hurt to at least ask.

The food court at the All Stars gave us a child size portion of turkey, mashed potatoes and green beans. This was not listed on the menu for kids, but we asked and they DID accomodate us. And my kids were happy about it, because they also get sick of eating chicken tenders and pb&j.

Signature Restaurants are your more expensive restaurants with a dress code, etc. They require 2 dining credits.

Thank you! :)

Okay, I was part of the debate on kids CS meals and was quite upset with the choices, but really figured that it wouldn't be a big deal to buy them something if I had to. But now I looked at the Sci Fi Dine In menu for kids and I'm feeling a bit ill. They really only give a kid the same junk they give at CS. I mean, the choices are grilled chicken, mac and cheese, nuggest, or hamburger. I'm sorry but I think that is pathetic for a sit down. Are most of the sit downs this bad?

Sounds like typical TS kids menu to me... w/ the exception of pizza and hot dog :confused3

What restaurants do many of you normally go to???? Most of the regular places we have gone have very similar menus with chicken fingers, burgers, mac and cheese etc... My DS does not eat these things on a regualr basis but sometimes thinks they are great when he does. I also do not think he will be nutritionally damaged if he eats like this for a week because it is vacation. My son loves lots of great food, salmon, broccoli, salad etc... but he will aslo eat other food. Is the complaint that the child on DP is restricted to the childrens menu and therefore could not get different foods. I suspect that even if salmon and broccoli was on the children's menu 90% of kids would not order it, so it doesn't make too much sense to order it. I figure I was only paying $11 bucks a day for my kid to eat and that was a great deal. He got some great food at Kona, Crystal Palace, LTT, and Le Cellier so I figure he survived the rest of the time.
