Are they finally trying to get to grips with the smoking issue?

I see the points for the quotes post. But really, I don't think it is too much to ask smokers for some common sense, like Ms Poppins said. A lot of people seem to be lacking that, and that's why others want something done. If some smokers just used their common sense there would be no need to ask for some rules. At the very least they should put the stubs out when someone asks, and blowing smoke on someone's face (especially a child) is a no. The latter has happened to me before too when I politely asked someone to put their cigarette out.

Let's take my experience at the parade. If we take the above quoted post to the extreme that would mean I am forced to give my parade spot I waited quite a while for because some smokers decide to come up last minute and corner me. After all it's their right to smoke, and I can move from my space, right?

I don't think the problem is smokers. I think it is ignorant people who also happen to smoke. I gave up many years ago, but, when I DID smoke, I would never have dreamed of lighting up in a crowded place, I would walk away and find a secluded spot. If I was in a queue, then I'd wait, just as I had to go days without a cigarette when my kids were in hospital! Even with a ban in place, the ignoramuses are going to chance their arm. I'd sooner Disney sorted out the toilets first. lol.

I 100% agree with this but didn't post this before as I feared a bashing lol.

My husand is a smoker and I hate smoke around me but if they banned smoking in disneyland we would never be able to visit again.

And likewise, if you had children and one parent smoked, that child would be deprived of going to Disneyland too which I think is really sad and something I would never like to see happening.

No, I did quite clearly say smoking shouldn't be allowed in crowds and that the average smoker would have the good sense not to do so. Unfortunately, just as you get ignorant non smokers - you also get ignorant smokers who perhaps do cross the line. Again, in my post this is where I said CMs should be able to assist with some much needed guidance :)

I agree this thread does seem to make our all smokers are ignorant . As I said DH smoke but he never smokes in ride ques, parades etc.

TBH I've never noticed the problem at DLP, I've never had anyone smoke over me or my children whereas on a shopping trip to town I always get it.

ITA ..I'm an former smoker and I've smoked at Disney years ago but I didn't smoke in queues, I didn't smoke while waiting for or watching the parade.
I never smoked near little children even in the restaurant areas which were set up for smokers etc etc

You get ignorant people every where unfortunately and no rules are going to change that

Im concerned they do smoking rooms as I have never been given the option for a non smokers room and assumed it was illegal to smoke in enclosed places there as it is here.

I remember our first ever trip to DLP, DH lost his lighter asked at one of the shops where he could buy one in one of the shops and the CM was very rude and said this is a childrens theme park and walked off.

I didn't know until recently either. I just naively assumed the DLP hotel rooms were all non-smoking until the topic came up for discussion on a previous occasion.

Luckily we'd already requested non-smoking rooms in the requests section when we booked so just do this if you book online or ask for your request to be noted if you book by phone (or through a travel agent).

.

I've checked the (non) smoking law out for a previous enquiry and a hotel room is not classed in the same way as a restaurant dining room or a café and once you have closed the hotel door is your own private space

So theoretically you can smoke in a hotel room without breaking the law and the only comeback the hotelier has is to ask you to leave

As a general rule they are only going to give the smoking rooms to those who ask for them but as before you'll always get an ignorant one who'll smoke in their room wether it's designated smoking or not :confused3

I honestly didn't realise you could still get smoking rooms!

I thought it was illegal due to health and safety.

Oh well, you learn something new everyday :confused3

And your definition of crowd is? In other posts you have said someone walking down Main Street should be allowed to smoke because other people can just walk away. Also you seemed to have an issue with RoseBug complaining about someone smoking in a character queue. Especially the last one is very similar to the parade thing - you can't really move away in a ride queue or a character queue either.

Wasn't the fire at the Sequoia Lodge in 1996 caused by a discarded cigarette?

The law says hotels can still have smoking rooms and they are often full in the chains - Ibis and Campanille come to mind

Even it is a non smoking room nothing stops ignorant people from smoking in it so health and safety don't come into it really in this case.

I was reading the paper yesterday and in the latest report they say 1 in 3 people smoke in France and it's actually increasing rather than diminishing even though the price has gone up and the ban is in place

How can I possibly answer that question  ? Or were you being rhetorical? I did say that smoking shouldn't be banned in Main St but I'm not entirely sure what your point is?

Also you seemed to have an issue with RoseBug complaining about someone smoking in a character queue. Especially the last one is very similar to the parade thing - you can't really move away in a ride queue or a character queue either.

I absolutely don't have an issue with Rosebug saying that, I was merely raising the point that that was an example of an incident that could be subjective. Can't you see what I'm saying? If you have never smoked a cigarette in your life and/or are perhaps anti-smoking, of course you are going to be more sensitive to cigarette smoke.

Smoking isn't permitted in queues anyway is it  ? And that is absolutely right, because guess what? Returning to the original point you quoted me on up there ^^ people can't exercise their free will and move away when they're in a queue. As I have a said a couple of times now, this is where CMs should assist the general public because I imagine some people find it really intimidating to confront smokers especially when you factor in the language barrier.
