Are they changing platinum Castaway Club status?

We just finished our 10th cruise a few weeks ago - finally making platinum status (after a canceled cruise due to Hurricane Irma which delayed us a bit).

Our future cruises we have booked still say we are gold. We emailed DCL to see about our status and they emailed us back that the update to platinum will take place after our 11th cruise...

Is this a new policy? We always thought it was after your 10th.

Not a huge deal, but we are going on the British Isles cruise in September and very excited - that would be the only one we really would like to be able to be platinum so we can book some excursions early.

Possibly a mis-read of the policy, as the Platinum status begins after your 10th cruise (with your 11th cruise).

Thanks, we called and they said the email we received from DCL was wrong...they put in a work order to change our status to platinum. They said on the phone it should have been done automatically after our last cruise.

Sometimes the Castaway Club computer gets a little wonky. When both my husband & I reached Platinum, only his account showed he was Platinum. I was still Gold. We both had the same cruises, cruise dates, length of cruise, etc, but I was still Gold. I just called and asked them to fix it. Took about a day.

Glad you got it fixed....as that was definitely wrong info you received. We did the Southern Caribbean cruise 2 weeks ago and spoke with a few officers. One of things we talked about was a new Castaway Club tier and formula. They said they are discussing it but nothing has been decided. They definitely need another level. While checking in for our cruise there seemed to be way more Platinum people than others.

Not sure how other Platinums feel but I would prefer a Cove Café credit or photo credit or onboard credit or internet time than the current bottle of bubbly, fruit tray or chocolates. Actually I don't know if they even still do the chocolates as I didn't read the letter this cruise. I knew I would just order the bubbly to share with friends at dinner.

This Platinum would be fine with OBC, or internet time. We don't drink coffee, or get photos any longer.

We were on the Magic in January for b2b 5 night cruises. The letter we received offered choice of bubbly or fruit tray. We did the fruit tray on the first cruise. Then on the second cruise, we got the same letter, but when we were called by room service to contact them for our platinum stateroom gift, the cast member said bubbly, fruit tray, or chocolates. So I called and requested the chocolates! Not indicated in the letter, but apparently available on the Magic at least.

Agreed. I would like the increased OBC back. Drink discounts, internet anything but what they currently give.
I've turned down the gifts the last few cruises. I don't like champagne, I can get fruit at the pool deck, and the chocolates aren't very good. The chocolate covered strawberries they send when the toilet clogs or the AC breaks are great. I would take those.

I will mention this on my next survey or maybe I'll email them for the first time.

It's fairly non-impressive when they give snacks as a gift, when you're on a cruise and already getting stuffed to the gills with complimentary food...

I didnt call both my last cruises neither and the October one they left the chocolates in my room on the second last day and on the November cruise they brough the fruit tray on the last day while I was on CC.. like I'll eat all that fruit by myself on one night.. I mean if I want fruit, I go to Cabanas or the pool deck.. I fell it was such a waste

I agree that they need to redo the levels within the platinum category at some point...there are so many folks I have noticed recently who have sailed 11 times or more checking in and are out and about on the ship. Even if they do something like double platinum, triple platinum, quad etc. lol

I like the chocolates and even though on the Magic in January it was not listed on the letter asking what we wanted, I requested the chocolates and they brought them. That being said, I would love an on board credit in place of the food items they offer. :)
We are not coffee drinkers and we typically don't get photos so that is not something we would take advantage of. (we did buy the photo package for our MDAS cruise in January and got a couple of 8x10's free for being platinum though)

I agree they really need to add another level with more perks. Other cruiselines do a lot more for their repeat guests. DCL doesn't even have the party anymore to acknowledge or thank us for our business. I don't know how many platinum cruisers there are on a typical cruise, but my son is usually the only one in the Edge. I believe we were the only platinum cruisers on our NYC cruise. I saw very few in Alaska and none in Galveston. There may be more sailing out of Florida because of the FL res discounts.

I always wanted to know how many platinums as well. Our DD is 4 and she turned platinum last year. Maybe they need to do something at 20 or 25 and raise the amenities??

If you have taken your family on 20 cruises...................you have made a pretty big investment into Disney entertainment. And that isnt even counting going to the parks, going to movies and buying their merchandise.

Just my 2 cents.

I would like them to change the levels to days spent on the boat and not number of cruises taken. For us we have taken mostly 7 day cruises and have spent just as many days or more on the cruise ship as a Platinum cruises who have only ever done 3 or 4 day cruises. We have spent 35 days on the ship where as someone who took 10 3 days cruises would of spent less. I know I have read threads before about people taking a 3 day just to make platinum. Great for them, stinks for us.

You could always take some 3 day cruises or even better............a back to back 3 and 4 day cruise if you want to get to platinum quicker.

We just really did not like the 4 day cruises we took. We felt like we had just gotten on the ship and settled then it was time to pack up and leave. I have explored the BTB once but the price was significantly more than the 7 day so we didn't go that route and I don't believe I looked again. BTB has appeal because 2 days on CC sounds awesome. Any how this upcoming cruise will probably be our last anyway. Kids are getting older and would like to try something else.
